View Full Version : Starting fresh!

I have just gone through a very stressful time & have gained about 20
pounds. My husband had a small stroke but has now almost fully recovered
& is at home. This is day 1 of my fresh start, so wish me luck in
staying OP.

Thanks, Nathalie. Hug caught ;-) Now that Bill's home, I can do my walks again
and that is so calming to my spirit. Thanks goodness that my hubby only had a
slight stroke but that was bad enough - only his speech & swallowing were
affected, but It was still a great worry to me as I wasn't sure at first whether
his speech would come back. Thank goodness it has & looks like he will make a

Glad to hear that DH is getting better and you are back OP. My DH had an
angina attack last week and ended in the hospital for 2 days of tests so I
can understand the stress you went through. Hang in there.

I know the feeling. As he gets better you will feel the stress go away.
Having someone in your family ill does create stress. I've dealt with it
with both my husband and my daughter. It was their illnesses that put on
quite a bit of my weight over a period of 5 years. Things have settled down
some so I can concentrate on losing weight.

I agree and the only way I can handle the stress seems to be by eating. As long
as I can recover and get it back off, I don't really mind. I am just thankful
that he is alive & almost back to normal. I got the weigh off once and I will do
it again - with the help of this group, that is ;-D

I'm sure you will now that you are back on program. I just wish I had found
ww when all of our medical troubles were going on. It might have kept me
going. The past still haunts me and puts me into a depressed state at times.
I fight this everyday and food has always been my crutch. I try and not let
that happen these days when the demons come out to play. Journaling helps
keep me on track. My tracking spreadsheet is on my desktop. I check it every
time I want something to eat at night to fight my snacking tendencies.

Thanks, Laura. I know that while my hubby was in the hospital, I was eating
completely out of control - and mostly sweets ;-( This is day 2 and I'm doing
fine!

Thanks, Sara. I need all the luck I can get ;-D It's a shame to have to lose

know succeeds.

Thanks, Joyce. Bill's still improving fast and now starting to talk faster ;-D I'm
back to going out, but I worry about him being alone now - but I must get back to
normal & do my exercising as usual or I know I will gain more weight! The exercise
also helps fight the stress as I do get a nice feeling of euphoria after a really long
walk.

Glad to hear you are back on track. When my husband was in the hospital my
daughter and I ate out each night before we went to visit him. Taco bell and
Burger King. I'm glad it was only 2 days this time or my WW efforts would
have been totally blown. It is very hard to stay on track when your routine
is disrupted and under stress with your hubby sick.

Thanks, Laura. Hubby's well on the way to being 100 % but I find the stress is
still there - but not as bad. I keep worrying that he'll have another one! I did
find that being able to get my walking in has helped tremendously with the
stress, so I will do another walk tomorrow which is normally my rest day.

OMG, Elaine. I'm so sorry to hear about your hubby but so glad to hear he's
doing better! I wish you a ton of luck in your fresh start. Start with
concentrating on water, because a lot of the time it's simply water weight
that get's us. And that evil Salt monster! Hang in there and I'll keep you
and hubby in my prayers...

Thanks Kristin. He's improving quite a bit each day & hopefully will have his
full speech back. The water was one of the problems in that I wasn't drinking
what I should & binging terribly. This is day 3 & I'm still 100% so hopefully I
will be OK now. All prayers are most welcome.

I sure understand the constant worrying. It's hard to get it into your head that
if something is going to happen, it's going to happen ... regardless as to whether
you are in his presence or not. It could be tomorrow, it coud be 3 years, it may
never happen again. I went through the same thing with my husband years ago when
he was having problems that were going undiagnosed. He was afraid to be alone, I
was afraid to leave him alone .. both of us seemed to end up putting our lives on
hold. I don't know if there is an answer Elaine, other than if you don't make
some time for yourself, you aren't going to do your own health (mental and
otherwise) any good.

I wish both of you the best!

Joyce
