"Michelle" wrote in message oups.com... Julie, So sorry to hear about your sinus problems. I'm totally sympathetic as I suffered terrible pollen allergies before I moved to NV. It rains on average 4" per year here, so the foliage is quite limited. A haven for me. And oddly, NV can be bad for my allergies in the fall. We traveled through there when we moved from KS to WA when I was a kid. I broke out in hives from head to toe. At first I thought I was allergic to the new sweater I was wearing. But when my mom realized that the hives covered my body, I was rushed to the ER. The Dr. there said I was allergic to something...most likely the sagebrush...and the sooner I got out of the area, the better. We then drove for about two hours and then the weals subsided. I also tend towards dry eyes when I am there from the dry air. I once made the mistake of walking about a mile in that desert heat! My now husband and I had flown to Las Vegas and we were staying on the strip. We didn't have a rental car. He hated riding busses and thought it was foolish to pay for a taxi. But he wanted to go to a club at the other end of the strip. I think we did take a bus to get down there. But he insisted we walk back home. Not only did I have blisters on my feet from the new shoes I was wearing, but I felt dehydrated from being out in that high wind and heat. That was the last time we walked there! Unless it was just across the street. Another time we were staying in Reno. He found a driving range. I opted not to hit the golf balls because it was so hot and windy. They had some of those stacking resin chairs outside and they wouldn't stay upright because of the wind. So I hung out in the pro shop for a while so he could hit a bucket of balls. A little while later, he came in with a bucket that still had a lot of balls in it. Said he had given up. He had been hitting the balls against the wind and they were blowing right back at him. He hits the balls hard too! His drives are usually at least 250. I found it interesting how much better you feel since eliminating the foods you are allergic to, because when I eliminated the foods that were spiking my sugars, I felt markedly better. Interestingly enough, there was a time in my life when I thought I was allergic to wheat. Couldn't convince the allergist of it as the symptoms were not typical and the test equivocal. Eventually, I went back to eating it. However, it is now gone again, being one of the things that spike my sugar, and I've wondered if I'm getting a double blessing--no sugar spikes AND less of an allergy drain. You might not be allergic to wheat, but it's possible that you have celiac sprue. My mom was convinced that she was allergic to wheat, but she didn't test positive for it. Congrats on the weight loss too! I have to add that before eliminating the foods that spike my sugars (cause allergy symptoms?) I always had to fight not to gain weight. Since eliminating those things, I can eat until I'm satisfied and my weight stays where it should. My weight has been a sore subject for many years. Went from being extremly underweight as a child to a brief period of normal weight, then overweight and next to impossible to lose. Then when I got the thyroid problem while pregnant, my weight would fluctuate by as much as 12 pounds either way. One week the Dr. would yell at me for not eating enough and the next week for eating too much! And yet I was eating the same diet all the time. It is not **what** you eat but **how much** you eat that determines your weight over time. Would be more than happy to "glow" and chat about this and other things like cardiology, diabetes, cooking and nutrition that interest those following this thread here during the next on-line chat (01/26/06) from 6 to 7 pm EST: http://tinyurl.com/cpayh For those who are put off by the signature, my advance apologies for how the LORD has reshaped me: http://tinyurl.com/bgfqt Prayerfully in Christ's love, Andrew http://tinyurl.com/be9va |
