I've got an appointment with my physician to talk about a couple of
minor things tomorrow. I am wondering if there is anything specific I
should inquire about with regard to being into powerlifting and running
and having a recent massive fat loss? I'm in excellent health, although
part of me sometimes wonders if that fat melted off me too easily.

For example, I'm taking a fair amount of niacin these days so I'm going
to ask for a liver test. I'm still doing an EC stack, but it's like 12
mg E and 100 mg of C in the morning: not exactly a lethal dose. But I
have to weigh that against some weird vascular stuff happen: Raynaud's
phenomenon and my blood pressure is creeping up a bit since I start
weight-lifting, moving from 115/65 to more like 135/75. I'll mention
that, but isn't that normal when you are a regular weight-lifter for
your blood pressure to go up?

What else would you ask to be tested for if you were fit, forty and
feeling fine?

Hey Dally--I don't think it's normal for the blood
pressure to go up that much with WT--I lift four days a
week and my last "official" reading was 102/66, a
slight increase over my previous 100/64. But 137/75
sounds high--do you think the stack has anything to do
with it?

And good luck on your search for medical advice from
usenet--I followed the thread on MFW.

:-) Then you know that I'm only using this to broaden my perspective in
case there's stuff I didn't know I didn't know or hadn't been thinking
about. Your comments, for example, make me more likely to mention my
blood pressure instead of dismissing it thinking I already know the answer.

Is there anything they can do to test hormonally wise for the onset of
menopause - so you can be prepared ahead of time? Not that I'm
saying that you are there... I wouldn't know. But at 40, you are
reaching "that age" frame. :-) Don't know if there is anything they
can test for on that kind of stuff.

Yes, the whole "am I in peri-menopause and if so, what does that mean"
question is at the top of my list. I've got various symptoms but it
might be due to my drastic fat loss and the resulting estrogen changes.

My endocrinologist has told me this, but I've heard contradicting
opinions as well. My BP went up some since I started lifting, but has
settled down a bit since I've lost weight.

Dally:

It really isn't too early to ask for a treadmill if you have a family
history of heart disease. A baseline is invaluable in the event of
something happening later on.

I think you are probably better versed than me in lipids (that always
confused me) but I might ask for lipids to get a handle on where you are.
Eating well is good but only a portion of your cholesterol comes from
lipids.

Also, I recently had blood work done and found interesting things with my
estrogen and yes, free testosterone levels. You may want to get a baseline
to refer back to in the coming years.

Blood pressure may go up with power lifting. Think about it, you have more
vascular mass to move blood through. The pump pumps harder. Your numbers
are good, though.

Other than that, I would stay with routine preventative stuff.
