We've started our initiation diet almost two weeks ago. I dont know when I
am supposed to start feeling energetic....
I was a fruit and salad person before, always eating healthily, never
refined sugar, flour etc. Alway wholewheat, seeds, fruits, etc. Hardly ever
any read meat or eggs, just fish and turkey or sometimes chicken. Mushrooms,
salads, berries, etc. At age 24 I weighed 120 lbs
Now at age 57 (and a new marriage, which is what did me in: all that cooking
for each eother with bottles of wine and candlelight) I weigh 163 pounds and
want to loose certainly at least 20 of those.

But I am sooooo very tired. After we eat I am ok for about one hour. Then I
drag myself on again through the day. Is ,my body just refusing to
cooperate? Does it want to go back to fruits and verggies and healthy
carbo's??? Gosh how miss my apples.... and my muesli/yoghurt breaksfast with
OJ...

help, can anyone advise me?

thanks

Give up and stay fat because obviously you don't have what it takes to do
otherwise.

Jopie,

I think the no energy part might pass. Give Atkins (or whatever low carb
you're on another couple of weeks at the very least). Hang in there.
Another option that sounds a little closer to the way you used to eat is
the South Beach Diet. I suggest sticking to whole, unprocessed foods as
much as possible. Although I do eat a little splenda and there personally.
I chose protein power as it suits my taste. There's more than one diet out
there, but if you are going to shop around with them at least try each one
for a month or so. Any less and you aren't giving your body time to
adjust. Eating paradigm changes take a while for the body to adjust to. Do
research and lots of reading, knowledge is power READ READ READ and get
more than one opinion on things. Not just "bread is not low carb"

I don't understand. In another thread you mentioned Atkins, so I assume
that is the plan you are adopting.

On Induction you can eat the salads, fish, turkey, and chicken. After a
few weeks when you progress into OWL, you can slowly increase consumption of
berries, nuts and seeds. And eventually limited quantities of grains.

If you are not used to eggs and beef, and don't want to eat them, then
don't. And make sure you drink plenty of water. Sometimes I think the
latter is overlooked or underemphasized.

The way you used to eat sound a lot like a maintenance version of Atkins. It
also sound like the problems came in when you started drinking a lot of wine
and eating whatever it is you are eating during these romantic dinners. Why
not tell your sweetie what's going on and switch to a healthier way of
eating for your dinners together? Wine alone can add a lot of calories. If
the old way of eating was working for you, I would go back to it and start
getting more exercise to burn off the excess pounds that you put on. Atkins
isn't for everybody.

So, what kinds of foods are you eating now? I have found that overly greasy
foods weigh me down and make me sluggish, so I tend to stay away from
things like bacon and I limit my cheese and butter too. Also, I get tired
after big meals, so I usually eat smaller, more frequent meals. You don't
have to eat red meat or stop eating veggies on low-carb, by the way. I
don't know which plan you're doing, but I made up my own and I eat lots of
salad, spinach, and brocolli and it doesn't hurt my efforts at all. Now,
when I pig out on nuts or eat too much cheese . . . then I stop losing,
lol.

I don't understand.

You say you ate "healthily" and were happy with your weight.

Now you have a new marriage and have put on pounds due to "wine" and all
that cooking?

Why not go back to the way you ate when you were happy with your weight?

Jennifer

When I post I generally type that I am LC'ing, and to most extent this
is true. I however am not on Atkins or South Beach I for the most part
( a few modifications that do not stall me have been added) follow
Somersizing. I think you need to find what works for you and not just
pick one because a lot of people recommend it or are on it. Check a few
of the books out of the library to read about them before you decide to
buy and get dissapointed in spending the money on something you realize
will not work for you or you do not like. Atkins works for a lot of
people my father in law has lost a ton on it, I like others thought it
was all meat eggs and cheese etc. I read The Zone, Atkins New Diet
Revolution, Eat More Weigh Less, Eat Great Lose Weight, and many others
before deciding.
