Whole Foods Controlled Carb Pizza Crust
I picked up a 2-pack of these recently for about $3. The package
contains two 9" pizza crusts. Had one this evening, not bad at all, if you can deal with whole wheat pizza. The crust is thick and filling, and with the right cooking could get nice and crispy. Taste was more or less neutral, which is fine by me. The nutritional data on the label is confusing, however. It gives the following info for a single slice (1/4 of a 9" pizza): Calories 60 Fat 0.5 x 9 = 4.5 Carbs 8, Net 3 x 4 = 12 Fiber 5 Protein 6 x 4 = 24 As you can see, the calories don't add up unless you use the total carbs instead of the net carbs (8 x 4 = 32). But that adds up to a whopping 128g carbs per 9" pizza. That makes no sense either, since no one would call that "controlled carb". I am going to contact them, but I am hopeful that they simply don't subtract the fiber for their calorie count. I guess there are no strict guidelines for this, but I have encountered this same logic in one other product as well (Fiberfit liquid Splenda sweetener). One of their representatives emailed me to say that they considered this "covering all their bases). I'm interested in any thoughts people may have. If one of these truly has 12g carb per 9" crust I will definitely be buying more, especially at this price. |

Forget the crust! Even if it is low carb...We just order the "loaded" pizza
with all the meat and veggies. Then get extra cheese. Then it's easier to scrap off the good stuff and leave the crust for fat people.... Atkins for life "TAD" wrote in message om... Whole Foods Controlled Carb Pizza Crust
If one slice is a single "serving", then multiply x 4 to get the
entire pizza crust. The entire pizza crust has 32g carbs, of which 20 is fiber and 12 is "impact carbs" or "net carbs". I want to interpret the label as you indicate above, but how can I be certain? I thought that USA labels DID delete fiber in the calorie computation. Am I mistaken in this belief? Thanks. |

Every label I've ever seen would lead me to believe you're mistaken. I just don't think it's regulated very well. LCing since 12/01/03- Me- 5'7" 265/212/140 & hubby- 6' 310/230/180 |
