Hershey's Chocolate Syrup

I thought I would add some innocent flavoring to my Milk and Splenda. My meter just set a new record for me, at: 344. Oops. Whatever item one decides to try, the main idea is to look at the carbohydrates. Carbs can come from other items besides sugar, so you cannot go only by that. Don't get confused with percentages of daily amounts and other extra, but unnecessary information that they print on the label. Go by the carbohydrates in gms., and note the serving size. Chocolate mixes that are pre-sweetened, but not sugar free, are good to stay away from. I like to add chocolate flavoring to coffee to make mocha. The sugar-free varieties add about fifty calories and 9 to 12 gms. of carbs, depending on brand. The standard cup of coffee is small enough, (about 5 oz.), that a half packet of the mix is sufficient. I also add 2-3 teaspoons of non-fat milk for better flavor to the coffee/chocolate mix, plus the calcium and Vitamin D. This is a low, but not "free" addition. As I have a couple cups everyday with breakfast, it is a consistent part of my diet. If you only have it occasionally, then it will be something extra, which will need to be taken into account for your diet. Perhaps, have it on a day when you anticipate getting extra exercise. If you want to mix up your own brew, premium Cocoa by SACO will do a better job than Hershey's cocoa at less money. The item is available at Save-A-Lot grocery stores, and probably others. They also have a website at http://www.SacoFoods.com/PremiumCocoa.html It contains 2 gms. of carbs per Tbsp., but must have a sugar-substitute sweetener added along with non-dairy creamer or non-fat milk. It is easy to add to coffee, and a small cup of coffee will only need 1/4 teaspoon. |
