Angie - exercise is a must for this diet and it will work. Just a
short-term diet though

I agree. And I plan on daily exercise. I don't plan on using this long
term. I am in the RIGHT NOW mindset because I have medical (hypertension)
and physical problems (bad back, knees and foot problems) all because of
excess weight. I need to lose weight fastest possible. Then I will worry
about continued weight loss and keeping it off.

I think so. In the past month she's posted about surgery, liquid diets,
and now Slimfast. What will it be next week? Hoodia? Slimming teas?

Maybe instead of you being so judgmental, you could try to be helpful.

I answered some of your questions on both surgery and liquid diets, as
you can see by checking with Google.

But
no, your history with me is to always judge me and make snide comments to
me.

A falsehood, as anyone can tell.

Perhaps I am just trying to see what might work best for me. I don't
see anything wrong in asking questions and then figuring out for myself what
might work best FOR ME.

I'd suggest eating less and exercising, but perhaps a class in anger
management would be more useful.

The faster you lose weight the higher the
percentage of it will be lean mass (muscle).
That's a bad thing.

The fastest way to lose weight while sparing
muscle is low carb (Atkins, Protein Power,
etc.). Drop down to 600-800 calories a day
with about 10% of it being carbohydrate.
In the beginning, low carb causes a good
deal of water loss. That immediately (within
2 weeks) reduces your blood pressure due to
a beneficial drop in blood volume.

Even fasting won't get fat off of you faster
than low carb. Fasting will cause a larger
decrease in scale weight over the same period
of time, but more of it will be muscle and
less of it will be fat.

The other important thing is to do serious
resistance exercise. No foo-foo, light weight,
high repetition, read a magazine while you
relax on a machine, stuff. You need to do
the real thing to spare muscle while losing
fat. Forget the aerobic work while you're
doing this. Aerobic work increases muscle
loss. The resistance work will strengthen
the muscles all over your body and will
likely cause improvement with your other
physical problems.

And of course here's the best link on the
subject:http://www.stumptuous.com/cms/index.php

Do you plan to do this the rest of your life? Are you just trying to lose
a few pounds and then go back to your regular eating habits?
It seems a waste of time and money unless you have a plan to stick to
from now on.

My goal RIGHT NOW is to get weight off the fastest way possible because of
some physical and medical ailments I have. Then I will worry about
contining to lose weight, and keeping the weight off long term. I need
help right now and fast.

If you lose it with Slimfast and reach goal weight you can start to switch
to normal foods and drop the SF liquid. But portion control is still
important and something you must learn. You probably know that already.
Exercise is important as well. Good luck!

All I have is some resentment toward you because of your attitude toward me.
You are still bent out of shape because I called you a snotty little booger
a month ago. Get over it.

Please read my entire post before dismissing me and my comments. I've not
responded hostile to anyone. I've reacted to "Neil" because he is hostile
to me. He has offered some, but little useful assistance... early on...
the rest has been critical, snotty, sarcastic and of no use except to
criticize me. I have no problems with anyone else. And no problem with him
until he again is sarcastic toward me offering no useful advise whatsoever.
I understand the history of the group, this is a usenet group though and
anyone can use it for whatever information gathering they seek-- you have
the right to ignore me if you have a problem with what I am asking. I agree
with long term weight loss and how to maintain it-- I am a little more dire
in my situation based on my medical and physical problems and limitations...
I am also hypotensive and working with a doctor to try and regulate my
thyroid at the same time of grasping at straws to find something that will
work for me in the interim. Losing weight is next to difficult for me.
sorry I do not fit into a mold of "just eat sensible, exercise and you will
lose weight". That is harder for some people.

The spirit of this group is to promote people changing their fitness
habits for sustainability in the long term.

You've consistently asked for people's opinions on short-term rapid
weight loss techniques. It should come as no surprise that there are
some negative opinions. You've reacted in a somewhat hostile way to
those opinions. This is understandable, but it may not be
appropriate.

I'd suggest googling old posts in order to get into the spirit of
things here. Frankly, this group's hardline attitude on diet and
excersize (sp) is what's kept me committed to finding long-term
healthy habits.

Also, you really don't have the right to tell Neil why he's bent out
shape. He's worked pretty damn hard at this, and I'm betting it would
be a little irksome to listen to someone who doesn't seem to be
willing to listen to good advice.

Neil is forthright, but he's far from snotty.

Hi Binky,

Thanks for the spirited defense. But I wouldn't say I am irked by Ms.
Snotty Booger's comments. How can I be irked by the expected? You've
unfortunately described her correctly.
