Default going okay...starting walking program tomorrow

things are going okay , i guess. had a little slip up yesterday. but i am
wipping the slate and starting over clean and fresh today. no more mess ups.
i'm also starting a walking program that i got off the net from a good site.
for the first week you walk days for 10 - 15 mins with a two day rest period
then each week after that u up your times by 5 mins and at the end of each
week you have a set time that you have to walk so for the first week my
target time in total is 60 -75 for the whole week.
not bad to begin with then i'll up it like i said as i get better at it.
hopefully this along with my diet plan will boost my weight loss.

Hello Angie,

It sounds like you have a plan and that's the best place to start. Good
luck on reaching your goals. I walk 2, 3, or 4 miles per day at least five
days a week and I really feel it helps me feel better and assists in losing
weight. I spend about an hour to an hour and a half walking too.

Take care,

Paul

Default going okay...starting walking program tomorrow

Lately I've been doing the same. I go to the gym in the morning and
when I get home I walk -- not necessarily for me but because the dogs
want to get out. We typically walk 2-4 miles depending on the time and
the temperature -- and sometimes I take each for a shorter walk
separately to keep my sanity :-) It helps me to think of this as not
necessarily something for ME but something to help THEM. I mean, I have
already been to the gym so it would be easy for me to say "too yucky
out" and blow it off it it were purely for me (although clearly I
benefit as well!) but if I am thinking of walking as something that I do
for the girls, well, that's different :-)

They are both pretty good about walking and we average 3.25 - 3.5 mph so
we are going a decent pace.

Oh, I got some fun "safety gear" for the three of us too. I had an
illuminite (reflective) jacket that I got for biking (turns out that I
hate biking in the dark and the gym is a lot better option for me) and I
use that but I also got bandannas and a baseball cap made of the same
material (http://www.glowdog.com/). We all put on our safety gear
before going :-) Anyway, even with the parts of our walk that have
sidewalks, I feel a lot better knowing that folks have half a chance to
see us in a timely fashion.

Good job. Try to do it every day - bad weather or not. In bad
weather you can go to a mall or use a treadmill at home. Just do it!
Except no excuses (unless ill).

i know i'm doing it every morning after work. like i ve said before i work
mid nights and it's easier for me to do it after work. i don't have access
to a tread mill or have a mall close to my home but i do have walking tapes
so when i can't get outside i will try and do those.

Walking is, of course, better for you than no walking, and it's good for
your heart, but don't expect to see much boost on the scale for short
periods of walking. It takes roughly 35 miles of walking to burn the
calories of one pound of fat. If you walk briskly at about 15 minutes
per mile, that's almost 9 hours walking.

And walking, like any aerobic exercise, only helps while you're doing it.
Quoting from ADIPOSITY 101 (http://www.omen.com/adipos.html)
Several years ago it was widely reported that working out left one
with an "exercise afterglow" for up to 12 hours, during which body
metabolism remained at least slightly elevated. More recent studies
have shown that this effect requires a level of exercise attainable
only by highly trained athletes. Moderate exercise does not increase
the metabolism (BMR) of obese subjects.

You might also look into some weight training. If you add muscle, you
increase the calories that you burn even while resting. The notion that
it would make you bulky or unfeminine is a myth. Women don't bulk up
unless they're taking steroids.

I highly recommend http://www.stumptuous.com/weights.html
for women's weight training.

You might check the malls in your area. In some areas they open early
in the winter for mall-walkers.

a walking program is terrific anglea!
don't be discouraged by those who will downplay the benefits of
walking, imo and experience, its not true!

i walk no less than six miles weekly and i do this at 4mph.
its a great exercise with great results, and no impact damage!
