This morning I weighed 195, which was the original target weight I set for
myself. This is a nice even 80 pounds since I started attacking my weight
problem.

Though I adjusted my final goal down to 183 some time ago, I did want to
make note of this weight as, for me, this is a fairly significant milestone.
I do still need to lose these last few pounds but I am quite pleased with
the progress so far.

I'm still staying fairly strict on what I eat...capping at 1600 calories/day
with about 45g carbs/day. Still taking my supplements, lots of water,
walking for my exercise (though I will be starting some lifting soon as I
need to tone a bit, my upper body in particular.) Basically just sticking
with it and trying to not let things get me down in my day to day life.

For any who might care to see I have posted updated pictures of me at 196
from a couple days ago to show the difference between the 210 or so I
weighed at Christmas and now.

I do so love the progress pictures. :-) You've done very well, and
adding the lifting will probably yield benefits you don't even expect.
Go heavy though - under the direction of someone with some experience
in the sport. Roger would be a good ear to bend. BTW, "Toning"
doesn't really exist. Light weight lifted many times is really just
aerobic exercise. G

Take care,
Cramen

Sorry Carmen, but you're off base here; you forgot to add IMHO.

Following my 1998 stroke I was able to work with only very light weights as
part of my PT rehab (ankle weights, wrist weights, dumbells etc.). Through
lots of repetitions and perseverence, strength in the weakened muscles
increased steadily, and I never increased the weights -- just the # of
reps. All exercises that I did with my "weak" arm or leg I also did with my
unaffected side, and experienced strengthening on the healthy side also.

I'm sure that compared to heavy weight training with fewer reps, less
weights with more reps indeed does has more aerobic and less strengthening
benefits. But it doesn't follow that it has no strengthening benefits at
all.

Sigh. First, there was a clear G there. I was making a light
hearted point. Second, I never said it had *no* strengthening
benefits. Third, the muscles on the side unaffected by the stroke
would have experienced neurological adaptive effects even if the
amount of weight provided no real challenge for them. Much of what
newbies to weight training think of as an increase in strength is
actually neural. It's all good though.

Take care,
Carmen

Well done! I like your photo album as well. It is great you reached your
first goal. Just think....4 more pounds and you will have single digits to
lose. I can remember that feeling. It sounds like so little to say, I only
need to lose 9 or 5 or some such number.

Nice job!
