Day 27 -- no change, still 17 pounds gone
1-27-07
365/248/200 Day 27 and still 17 pounds gone. I got on my scale this morning and saw that the indicator showed I weighed s-l-i-g-h-t-l-y more than 248 and that motivated me to take off my winter clothes and find out exactly where I was at. If the indicator had bounced substantially higher - maybe like a kid on a trampoline - I wouldn't have done it, but I did find it rewarding to find out what I weighed this morning. And when I weighed myself again without clothes, I was smack-dab in the middle of the 248, and I found that quite positive for me. So the loss I have experienced over the last few stays remains. I didn't exercise yesterday but I did the day before. We've been coming home from work somewhat late and we had to pick up our car from a shop. I hope to exercise later today if my right foot feels good. I'm still limiting the food choices I have - again I am reminded of people around the world who keep a healthy weight and in part this is because of limitations of food choices, as well as portions. And certainly there are many hundreds of millions of people who probably would willingly swap my overweight for their undernourished condition. I imagine those people who live longest have not visited fancy restaurants on a regular basis. I don't know what makes people find a good diet plan and adhere to it suddenly one, but there are a variety of factors that lead people to go astray. They include, I think: variety of foods, people offering their own dietary suggestions, people setting very difficult goals for themselves in terms of eating and exercise, unrealistic weight-loss goals, being emotionally battered by weight-loss gains, having problem foods in the house, being in the habit of mindless eating - especially of high-calorie high-palatation foods, not maintaining at least minimal motivation day after day and week after week and month after month, perhaps drinking alcohol (which reduces "won't power," leads to worthless calories, and leads one to return to the kitchen as soon as the glass is empty), not keeping at least rough track of the calories in and also of scale weight, etc. I'm sure working on a lot of the above factors myself but I intend to keep on this diet at this until about mid-May when my bet will be over and I will be quite close to 200 pounds. I'm not going to wait until I have perfect control in all of the above areas before I lose my extra weight. I'm employing a rather brainless, simple approach to the weight loss effort (low-calorie, daily weighing, etc.) and there is none of the emotional turmoil that I have felt in the past. I hope everyone has a great Saturday and a great weekend and week ahead! Yours truly, Caleb |
