Gut Hormone Shots Help Overweight Patients Shed Pounds
There's more than one way to skin a cat.
http://www.medpagetoday.com/PrimaryC...gement/tb/1622 Gut Hormone Shots Help Overweight Patients Shed Pounds LONDON, Aug. 29-Self-administered shots of oxyntomodulin, a hormone released by the small intestine, promoted weight loss in overweight and obese patients, British researchers report. Injecting oxyntomodulin three times a day a half hour before meals for four weeks helped overweight and obese patients reduce their body weight by 2%, according to researchers led by Katie Wynne, MRCP, a clinical research fellow at Hammersmith Hospital here. Those in this randomized, double-blind study were asked to maintain their regular diet and level of physical exercise. The hormone's effect, however, was short-lived. The treatment group quickly regained the lost weight within two weeks after stopping the injections |
