Default Food Combining?

I know most of you don't eat much carbs... but .. maybe you guys still have
an opinion on this.... "Food combining" says that we're not meant to eat
proteins and carbs at the same time. I've read somewhere that we ought to
eat proteins with carbs to minimise carbs effects on blood sugar levels.
What to believe? What are your thoughts on this? Does anyone here follow
'proper food combining'?

"Food combining" is wishful thinking, not science. The closest
thing I can think of that might be a benefit of combining
different foods is that some protein and fat will delay and spread
out the absorption of carbs, which can reduce the peak insulin
reaction.

If I remember right, even Atkins says in his book that you can help
minimize the effects of carbs by eating a lot of protein at the same
time. He uses it in the context of being in a situation where you
HAVE to have something with more carbs than you wish. His
suggestion is that it will slow the absorption and help keep the
cravings and hunger pangs away that are caused by blood sugar
spikes.

As a way of eating, it doesn't make sense at all. Once in awhile,
when necessary, it can help you not fall of the wagon, but it ALL
ends up in the same place. One does not cancel out the other.
Everything, carbs and protein, eventually get absorbed and processed
and will have an effect on blood sugar and caloric intake.

Just my opinions, based on what I've read and experienced.

Ahh, that is what it is called in english, I was wondering. When I
tell people what I eat, about every second person says "Ah, like food
combining". Somehow a lot of people know food combining in Germany.
And since that is established here, so far I have not had many bad
reactions to the idea of lowcarbing, I think.

Do you mean food combining where protein/fat is always eaten separately from
carbs? I tried Somersizing, but found it just too complicated to eat that way.
For example, you're allowed whole wheat breads, but anything you put on or
inside that bread has to be fat free, because supposedly combining carbs with
fat will result in weight gain. Conversely. all protein and fat must be eaten
with no carbs (although low carb veggies are allowed here.) And foods like
peanut butter and nuts, which has some carbs along with protein and fat, are
banned completely.. As I said, I found this far more restrictive than basic low
carbing, and I wasn't convinced about the "science" behind it anyway.
