Carla, my experience has been that to succeed, you need to keep in mind: 1. This induction phase is just a phase and only lasts two weeks. You CAN make it through even though it is very tough. Keep telling yourself: "It's only 2 weeks!" 2. You must make a pact with yourself that you will see it through in spite of your brain telling you to "just quit." And, you will start to have doubts during the diet. But, say to your doubts---I WILL do this; I WILL NOT quit! 3. Once you have been on the diet for awhile, you will be astonished at how much of a grip sugar had on your life. When you no longer "need" sugar, everything that has a lot of sugar will repel you, i.e., candy bars, cake icing, pie, ice cream. You WILL lose weight, too! You will discover a real appreciation of various salads.... Hang in there! Pat in TX |

Welcome Carla. You've come to the right place and chosen the right way
to lose weight. Remember to eat real foods. By that I mean the fresher the better. Boxed and highly processed foods are low in real nutrition. Buy and eat fresh meats and fresh produce. Once you've eaten real foods, and avoided fake manufactured foods for a while, your health will improve significantly, and you won't need the Xenical and I would suggest getting rid of those asap. Also be aware that there are some posters here that can be really rude and offensive. Pay them no mind. Just keep your eye on the goal and enjoy your new way of eating. Good luck. This may cause problems for you since low carb diets are typically higher in fat. The body may end up trying to get energy from protein if there is a reduction in carbs, and it can't use ingested fat. |

Plus it may have an unwanted laxative effect.

Certain sugar-alcohol sweeteners have the same issue, so you may want to be careful of them. Many of these sweeteners also cause BG rises which you are trying to avoid, not to mention that a major part of the idea is to kick the 'sweet' thing. A couple of humorous anecdotes about the laxative effect of the sweeteners and Xenical. A while back, a couple of guys on a morning radio talk show were talking about the side effects of (I believe it was) Xenical. They were saying that the side effects included uncontrollable and explosive bowel movements. Hmmm, uncontrollable and explosive - two words I want associated with that subject. My first experience with the sugar alcohol sweeteners was a co-worker was sharing these mint candies he had as we were waiting to board a plane for a trans-Atlantic flight. After we had each downed a few of them, he discovered the warning about excessive consumption causing a laxative effect. The pack of mints went in his bag immediately. |

This is just some basics about me.- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - I went to costco on sunday and bought plent of beef, chicken fish and lettuce on sunday night i made my breakfast for the week- 2 scrambbled eggs and 4 sausage links. I also made my lunch for the week- grilled chicken straight off the george foreman grill on top of a bed f lettuce. dinners vary depending on what me or a memeber of my family makes for dinner. I work better under a strict well planned regimen. i tell you this much, eating healthy is expensive! but very much worth it! as for the xenical i am going to see how the combo works fr the next week, because honestly those are expensive too, because my health insurance doesnt cover it i pay about 130 for a month supply |

I wonder if the science supports our assumptions. i'm going to have to do some research on that. Thank you |
