A nice metaphor, Mary! For me -- at least so far -- maintenance has
pretty much meant doing what I was doing when losing weight. I don't
weigh myself quite as often, but I do it at least a couple of times a
week. And I still count calories, though I upped the goal range as
needed to stabilize my weight. I never even considered cutting back
on exercise :-).

Currently, I don't find any of this onerous. I mean, it might be fun
to eat more fattening stuff more often, but I can have anything I want
occasionally, and that is enough to keep me happy. I do wonder if I
will be able to keep it up, though. If for some reason I couldn't
exercise for a long time -- like due to an injury -- I don't know
whether I'd be happy cutting calories enough to compensate.

But I just take it a day at a time :-).

I really enjoyed your post Mary! You seem very determined and though you
may have taken a detour here and there, I have no doubt you'll be back on
the right road in no time.

So it's back to the highway starting today. Forgot to mention before
that I saw my nutritionist (numbers were not good) and it was my last
scheduled visit with him-- where you decide whether you are going to
sign up for another 9 months and pay up front. So yes, yes, I did. I
may swerve off the road but I am not going to roll over the car and
let it burn with me inside.

This was a very inspiring post, Mary. I sent it on to someone who could
use some inspiration.

I'll go get my healthy snack now!

That makes me feel good that you passed the post on, Laurie! I have been
doing well since that post -- a couple of potholes, yes -- but more
important, planning and making the right choices for me in several difficult
situations. So I can build on that strength and get rid of a few lingering
bad habits. One step at a time!

That's how I need to take it, too, Chris! You are a great example and
inspiration to me. I have started taking a cardio kickboxing class at my
trainer's, so I think that will help with the tendonitis (by not putting so
much demand on my ankle, I mean) while allowing me to have some fun with a
new way of exercise. I feel very dorky doing it and look forward to the time
when my skills and confidence are built up a little! It will happen! :-)

Thank you, Willow! Determination (sheer cussed stubbornness) is definitely
part of my character that helps me through hard times. As does my personal
mantra, "Committed, consistent, patient and persistent." If my behavior is
off track when it comes to healthy eating, I can bet that one or more of
those elements is missing. When all four are there, I feel and do my best.
But it's one step at a time to get back where I was. Thanks for your nice
post and my best to you!

Mary
