Default Food & Exercise -- 8/7/2004 to 8/13/2004

Well, here's the data for the week I spent in North Carolina. Rather
more food and less exercise than usual. There were some good reasons
for both, though, and I don't feel any fatter :-). The calories
weren't way over budget but the food choices weren't always too great.
(If you read this, you may note all the chocolates. My mother likes
to eat one or two a couple of times a day, and given that her appetite
had faded away to almost nothing, and her weight had dropped from
around 107 to around 102, I was buying whatever she would be tempted
to eat. And of course I joined her :-) .) Anyway, here's the data:

That was it, other than miscellaneous errand running (and a certain

I did find time for some clothes shopping -- bought nothing bigger
than a size 8, and several 6s :-).

Goodness, aren't you lucky! Even when I was very thin, as a young
adult, I could never fit into anything smaller than a size 14 UK, which
is a US size 10-12. Now I am UK size 18 (US 14-16), but I know that
even if I were to get down to 65 kg (which I don't actually plan to), I
wouldn't drop more than 1 or at most 2 clothes sizes. Sigh. I'm very
broad-shouldered, you see, as are all the family.

I'm actually very broad-shouldered as well (and muscular, because of
the weight lifting), but mostly that just limits the kinds of tops I
will wear.

When I was in college (in the late 1960s) and at about the same weight
as I am now, I generally wore a size 12. It's not so much that I'm
smaller now, but that clothing sizes have changed over time. I expect
today's size 8 is more like a 1960s size 12. So you may surprise
yourself if you get to 65kg :-). I know it was a surprise to me; I
always said I couldn't get below a 12 with my bone structure, but I
didn't know they were bigger now.

Yesterday while shopping (you may note that I've become a shopaholic
:-) ) I actually had to regretfully put back a jacket and pants that I
loved because the 8 was a little too big, and they didn't have
anything smaller!

Boy, is that ever the truth! It still seems ludicrous, honestly. But
there are brands I used to like (probably because they ran big :-) )
where all the sizes are now too big for me. (We are talking here
about brands that cater primarily to middle-aged ladies, I think.)

Yes, last time I got down to 10 stone 7 lb - can't think what that is in
kilos at the moment - I was surprised to find myself fitting into M&S
size 14 trousers. That was over ten years ago now.

In one way, how very gratifying!
