The I was driving 8 hours a day, twice a week for a year while working on my degree. I noticed that on those days I wasn't burning any calories to speak of. I finally learned that I shouldn't eat any breakfast before the trip and also shouldn't stop to eat during the trip. (Nor snacks during the trip). Driving evidently burns less calories than anything else. Uh, fat or skinny, that is a dangerous idea for many people. An hour or so after waking up, your blood sugar is close to a low point, and for people with sugar balance problems (including a larger per centage of overweight people), that is almost bound to affect reaction time and coordination. No, I am not advocating a truckstop/farmer/MickeyD breakfast, sitting like lead. But a small cup of 'healthy' cereal with skim milk, and maybe a piece of fruit, would keep your blood sugar a lot more stable. Sitting at home, do as you please, but when you are on same highway as me, I want your reactions as good as they can be. A sugar crash can be as dangerous as being drunk. And it can even happen to 'normal' people when they fast like that. Moderation, grasshopper, moderation. aem sends..... Roger? |

I want to know who feeds those people that can't get out of bed, because
they are too fat. Who goes to them and says, "Here you look hungry so I brought you a chicken. You can eat it after I empty your bedpan." "Retired Guy" wrote in message ... I am retired and I went down to a local, discount supermarket today to stock up on nonperishables. It's the first time that I had been to this particular establishment on the first day of the month. I could not help but notice that there were tons (pardon the pun) of really fat people riding around the aisles in electric scooters. The smallest of them probably weighed around 400 pounds. As I traversed the aisles with my cart, the scooters always seemed to be blocking the way for others and parked squarely in front of junk food. People were being delayed in their grocery shopping while these scooter driving fat people made up their mind what kind of cookies and such they wanted to buy. I observed that the baskets in the scooters were not exactly brimming with health food. While shopping, I bumped into the manager. I related my observations to him. The manager let me know that it was the first of the month and that's when people who are retired or on welfare get paid. I told him that the people riding in the scooters looked to be anywhere from their late 20's to early 40's. The manager explained that the people in the scooters were on disability because they were too fat to work. He went on to explain that this store, because it had a lot of junk food at low prices, tended to attract many of the really fat people in the local area. Because the really fat people loved this supermarket, they had 10 of these electric scooters available. The manager said that the first of the month is so busy with the really fat people that sometimes all the scooters get used and there's a small line to ride one. What is this country coming to? |

The responsibility for maintaining an "even keel" is *your* responsibility. I prefer to NOT excel all the time. Mental prowess is ok some of the time, but caffeine high and dullard makes for a nice variety. Especially on Thursday. les Do you have a diagnosis of being bi-polar (manic-depressive)? I might add that us skinny men don't have the "reserves" that dampen those sugar swings. When I was driving line haul, I nearly always had a cooler with some fruit, cottage cheese, a few of those Tiger's Milk bars. Surprisingly, milk has a bit too much sugar "punch" for me. And about the worse thing for me in terms of getting a sugar high followed by a serious sugar drop was YOGURT on an empty stomach. -- - Philip @ Maximum Torque RPM |

Full fat plain yougurt only has about 4 carbs per cup. Cottage cheese has 5-6 carbs per cup (what's really hilarious is that lactose reduced cottage cheese, which you'd think would be lower since they've reduced the sugar (lactose), is 7 grams). revek |

Lady Veteran AKA Bobbi Sanchez and also Robin King believe that type of life style is completely acceptable and no one should ever critique it. Well they are not *her* sister and watching her slowly killing herself by overeating and becoming a shut in due to her weight. The woman needs help to clean up herself after a bowel movement for gawd sakes. That IMO is no way to live. For them the evil of all evils would be to suggest to your sister that she might be better off if she took some poundage off. I have tried so many times. It does not seem to connect. Both of these oversize ladies have often strongly proclaimed these ideas on soc.support.fat-acceptance. It is absolutely ludicrous for any one to advance such claims.Obviously they are in denial of reality. I agree. Jaime ******************** You don't give up. You don't quit. You do what you say. My point earlier. The "care giving" person who feeds the obese
"patient" to the point they can no longer get out of bed should be reported to Adult Protective Services. This is abuse. -- - Philip @ Maximum Torque RPM Bob J wrote: I want to know who feeds those people that can't get out of bed, because they are too fat. Jaime A thyroid (TSH) test requires only a small blood sample taken. Without Synthroid, I am hypothyroid myself and have been so for 7 yrs. I will bet you the root of her obesity is more complex than simple hypothyroidism. Diabetes, depression, poor eating habits, sedentary life back when she could get around, surrounded by well meaning but harmful circle of friends, culture ... etc, are common contributors to morbid obesity. You need to call in a social worker to get her on the road to recovery. -- - Philip @ Maximum Torque RPM |
