14 Months In
I began lo-carbing (Atkins) in February 2004. By September, I had lost
45lbs; not spectacular by some standards, but I noticed a real difference in clothes sizes, knees not clicking, a general feeling of greater fitness, etc. Since September, nothing. There has been the odd increase in weight of around 8lbs when I threw myself off the wagon at Christmas and birthdays, but it soon disappeared after a short period on induction levels. So now I'm 283lbs (20st3lbs for my fellow Brits) although at one happy point after a 10-day business trip to LC-friendly New York, I dropped to to 274lbs (19st8lbs). I've checked back on my Fitday entries for the past year and I'm still following the WOE very closely. My calorie intake is broadly similar, if anything a little lower. I've had stalls before, but not one lasting seven months! I've heard of studies showing that bodies get used to lo-carbing and cease to show any further weight loss. What do you think? As far as it goes, I plan to stay LC. When I wandered off the path and ate carbs willy-nilly I felt lousy. It reminded me just how bad I felt at times; bloated, listless and a martyr to indigestion. This wasn't because I was pigging out, just that I was eating moderate amounts of the foods that I used to eat with abandon. On LC I feel good. And from what I've read there's no reason to do anything else. max 330/283/196 remove my doubts to reply |

(1) calculate your calorie needs. since you've been keep tracking of your food intake on FitDay, it should be a problem to compare your calorie intake with the calories you burn. if you don't have a calorie deficit, you won't lose. your calorie intake stayed similar thoughout the past year, but the amount of calories that you burn might have reduced because you have lost weight. you lost the 45lbs because you used to have a calorie deficit. you lost even more while you were in NY, possibly not because of the low carb food you've been eating, but because like everybody else you walked a lot and shifted your luggages a lot while you travel. (2) exercise. are you doing any? if you aren't, please start as it doesn't just make your healthier and burn calories, it also boost your confidence. after i start going to swim, i start to think - i am fat but i can swim reasonably ok just like many other people of various sizes. it makes me feel positive about my body. you need not go to gym, you can start cycling, walking, swimming, gardening, dancing... anything really. finally, welcome to asdlc! There's no magic to this, if you're not losing weight then you need some combination of less food and more exercise. From what you say it sounds like you need a whole lot more exercise. |

So what is a typical day's food for you? I didn't see you say how many carbs you eat. Since you've been on Atkins for 14 months, were you able to find your CCLL? My main suggestion is that if you are still following the plan at induction levels (WHY!?), then go into OWL. -- Spring LC since 1/1/04 260/197/170 "Before" & "current" pics at link below: http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/sprgsnow/my_photos |

But you do have to stick with it, regardless of stalls and weight complications. It might cause some difficulty, but it's easier to get fat then to get lean again. Remember this in the morning when you just don't feel like walking around the block, or whatever. |
