Default I won't make this mistake again ... Atkins Endulge Premium Ice Cream

I saw the "Atkins Endulge Premium Ice Cream" for the first time today in my
local grocery store. Although t was expensive, and I knew from other posts
here that the box contained just four 1/2-cup individual servings (I liked
that idea), I decided to buy a box of the Vanilla and try it.

One individual 1/2 cup serving is advertised on the box as 4g net carbs and
130 calories. It's sweetened with Splenda, sorbitol and polydextose..

I ate one after dinner, and it was surprisingly good; it had the texture and
close to the taste of "real" ice cream. Apparently too good. About 20
minutes later I started having spowerful sugar-type cravings that I hadn't
experienced in a long time. I went to the freezer and ate another one. I
gave the other two to my non-low-carbing sister so I wouldn't be tempted by
them. Fifteen minutes later I was ready to fight her for them like a crack
addict who gave away his last rock.

The botom line is, while the Atkins Endulge Premium Ice Cream is delicious
as well as sensibly portioned, I will never eat it again. I have never
eaten anything else that is "low-carb" that has given me such powerful
cravings. If someone else can just eat one serving without these cravings,
more power to you; I'll be happy for you. But unfortunately, they're
definitely not for me.

I'm not quite sure which ingredient caused the cravings, but I know I have
to avoid it in the future. Back to my plain meat and vegetables, and
occassional sugar-free popsicle (I can eat just one of those with no
trouble!)

If you're anything like me -- it really just comes from loving ice cream.
If you like that stuff, it's its own trigger.

Actually, I know that's not the case with me, Roger. I've had a half-gallon
of Breyer's Carb Smart Chocolate ice cream (also delicious) in my freezer
for about 3 weeks, and I occassionally eat about 3 tablespoons (about 1/4
cup, 3 net carbs) as a treat. It's always satisfying and I never crave
more. There's something different in this Endulge Ice Cream that gave me a
physical craving.

Unfortunately I'm visiting at my sister's house for a couple of days and
don't have my BG test meter with me. I'd love to see if the Endulge
affected my BG somehow. Can sugar alcohols or sucralose do that? Maybe I'm
just nuts!

I'm with you Roger...and even the low-carb stuff tastes pretty good.
No more boxes of low carb Breyers...I couldn't stop. Had nothing to
do with cravings (for me), had to do with being a pleasurable
experience, plain and simple. Kalish

Yes, I agree. Stay away from that stuff Ice cream is very definitely on
my "foods to be avoided list" I just love that stuff too much. Fortunately,
I don't miss it.

Please add IMHO (In My Humble Opinion) to statements that are just your
opinion and not n, thanks. It's proper netiquette.

p.s. Never top post, I find it disgusting that some posters got into this
confusing practice. What a shame IMHO.

Russell Stover low-carb candies is about the same for me, spouse loves
them and can eat only one per week, not me! I have to stay away from
them completely. Brings back the old "sugar monkey" feelings. lol

I guess it's lucky that this stuff freezes so hard in my freezer.
I have not eaten much of it. The last time I softened some of it,
I packed a couple of 1/2-cup containers. I'd just as soon not
have access to the whole carton, which, historically, has been
dangerous. Nonetheless, I find that I just don't think of it much
since it is in the basement. When I see it, it does not beckon.
If I want something sweet, the SF gelatins are just as satisfying
with only 10 calories and no g of carbs.
