I saw these on sale today. Splenda-sweetened, which is good. 10
g carb per cup, so be warned. The one I got, Cran-Grape, is
EXTREMELY sweet. Why on earth would they do that? It's like
drinking a lollipop. Ugh. I really expected something with at
least SOME of the tartness of cranberries, alas.

Interesting...my carb consumption was higher when these first came out
than it is now. At that time, I didn't find the Ocean Spray Lite drinks
overly sweet. But this winter, I had a mild UTI, so I needed to do the
cranberry juice thing. I bought some of the Ocean Spray Lite and found
it so cloyingly sweet that I had to drink mix in a lot of water (I
didn't measure, but I think each glass I drank was 50% water) to be able
to enjoy drinking it at all.

Thanks for the warning, as I was thinking of trying it. I don't know why even
the bottled iced tea makers feel they have to saturate with sweetness. If I
need to grab a bottled tea at Wawa or 7-11 I always try to find Honest Tea
(minimal sweetening) or Trade Winds unsweetened--both of these quench your
thirst in the summer like no ultra-sweet teas ever could!

Alice,

You can buy pills containing powdered cranberry extract which makes it
possible to completely avoid the sugary cranberry juice.

That said, I've never found cranberry in any form much help after a urinary
tract infection has started. sigh

I eventually found some of those. I also got some 100% cranberry juice,
which is *very* tart. I drank some of that watered down, with a little
Splenda added. When my parents visited for Thanksgiving, my mother was
so desperate for juice in the morning that she drank some of it, watered
down but without sweetener!

Maybe, maybe not. But it enabled me to feel pro-active while I was
waiting for the results of the second (confirmatory) culture. For
whatever reason, that was negative. It might have been that the first
was in error. Or it might have been the cranberries, and the extra water
I made a point of drinking.

So they may have made it sweeter? Why ever would they make it
disgustingly sweet? I did write to them and hope they respond.
It just strikes me as being so odd--in addition to unpalatable. I
am trying to figure out how to drink the rest of it, esp. since I
just found out I'm going to have to save my pennies. But it seems
to have no flavor other than sweet.

Ugh, why put sugar in ice tea at all, it is much more refreshing without any
sweetening at all. I could never stand sugar in it.

And thank you for that tip! I was just at 7-11 checking out the
Ice(d?) Botanicals (beverages). Only one had them. I have just
tried the cran-rasp (I think) one, which is okay (and compared to
the Ocean Spray stuff even better). Tomorrow, I will try the
kiwi-strawberry one. Tonight I had to have Crystal Light's Ruby
Grapefruit, just because it was not so disgustingly sweet.

Actually, a while ago I was looking up recipes to make my own
cranberry juice. Cranberries are not all that carby. I think
that is going to be the only way I get a drinkable version of it.

[snip]

What brand? How carby is it? I looked at one bottle of that, and
it seemed to be pretty carby.

I don't know if they've made it sweeter or if my taste has changed.
