Default I broke the cheap scale

And I did it just by stepping on it. No, I'm not over its range. I stepped
on the display and cracked it. Now it doesn't display numbers at all; just
some initialization symbols. Oh, well. DH didn't like it either, after
all. I'll wait and get one that we really like. In the meantime, it did
give one last believable reading before I did it in. I've evidently lost
eight pounds and I am also seeing differences in some of the non-stretchy
clothes I forgot I had.
I guess I had better stay away from cameras and mirrors.

Not to be a devil, , but how do you know it gave one last reliable number
since you've lost trust in it?

Good, still, that your clothes are fitting looser! That's always a good
sign!

Mirrors especially.

Remember when Alice looked into the mirror over the fireplace too much
and fell through to the other side?

Then she met really strange people and things.

So, staying away from mirrors is probably a good thing.

I knew you were going to ask that. It was reliable because it was three and
a half pounds in three days. Would you question that? That's almost a
whoosh! Geez Roger!
No, seriously. It was behaving like it did when it was new. I got on and
off of it a few times because I was surprised to lose That much. I leaned
around and shifted my weight and it never changed. It was like that when it
was new, and then it started being inconsistent.

You weren't supposed to agree. ; )

and strange things happened to her. I could stand to get really tall. If I
was about 6'5" I wouldn't need to diet at all.

You would think so, wouldn't you. I guess I'm just cheap that way.
Actually, I would have had a hard time throwing it out, even once I replaced
it. I have a hard time throwing things away. Not now, though.

Honest -- if you wanted a new scale, all you had to do was go out and
buy one. ;-)

Honestly does anyone know what is a good scale? I thought I had
bought a really good one (the weight watchers one) but almost
everytime I get on it within minutes of weighing and finding a weight
I don't like, I get on it again and the weight has changed. I then
try to make sure I am squarely on it and it changes again. After about
8 tries with 8 different results, I just choose the one that I like
the best (the lowest one of course) but I really would like an honest
reading to keep me on track. Where do you find a high quality scale
without breaking the bank? Mine cost $58.00 which I consider a bit
pricey, but I wanted an accurate reading! Anyone have any good info
on scales?

Even scales that don't offer great repeatability will register significant
weight changes of 5 lbs or more over time. I think our focus on
repeatability ignores the fact that our weight does change often on it's own
and if one is not careful, these normal changes will end up being a negative
impact to staying on track. This is why some recommend only standing on a
scale every month or so, so that if you've been keeping on track the weight
changes will be significant enough to register through the mechanical errors
of the scale.

Also, people are confusing accurary, repeatability, and precision.

I suggest you continue with your current scale and just find a way of
standing on it that you can do on a fairly consistent basis (where you feel
comfortable on it), so that you can just live with it's particular quirks.
For example, pay attention to where your toes & heals are on the scale when
you stand on it and try to put them there every time. Have someone put marks
on it if need be. Just take the first number you get once you think you've
hit the mark and be done with it. Then watch it change over time and you
lose or gain weight. I promise you'll notice.

You don't need a super accurate scale to lose weight. I dropped over 100
lbs using an old health-o-meter job. I could change its reading by leaning
to one side or the other.
