Default Bread is Back?

Anyone see the new Jack in the Box commercials? All about their ciabatta
bread. It boldly claims that "bread is back" and asks the viewer to "admit
it, you've missed bread."

I never saw bread go away...I just chose not to eat it. And, I haven't
missed it. Been livin' la low carb loca since may '02. The times I've had a
roll or a sandwich, they haven't been that enjoyable.

Most bread is nothing but a cheap high calorie low nutrient
filler
used to suppress hunger, it provides no nutrients that are not
available from better sources. Restaurants push bread to insure
their customers leave feeling stuffed while maximizing their
profits.

Bread is a complex way of eating sugar. Maybe the fast food place should
just serve a bowl of sugar and add little fiber.

My best guess is that humans imprint on the foods they get as a child.
Thus, in time, attempts to change a way of eating are likely to fail.

It is good that you do not get carb cravings.

Haven't seen a JITB here in the northeast in years. Though they were
belly up?

During the height of Atkins popularity, bread sales took a huge
nose-dive. They are now on the rise (and almost back to pre-Atkins
levels I believe) but the big difference is the sales of white bread
are still very low, while sales of whole-wheat breads have 'filled the
gap'. The switch from white bread to whole wheat is a huge step
forward.

Not now-a-days. Consumption of whole wheat is way up. Coarse,
whole-wheat bread is a good source of many nutrients, fiber, and
phytochemicals. Sourdough rye bread has a proven anti-cancer affect.
