Hello all. I've been lurking a while and have just decided to join the fun.
I'm starting my low-carb diet (WOL?) today. I've read Atkins Essentials,
Protien Power, and Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution. I'm armed with a
bunch of recipes and ready to go. I'm not going to a clinic or signing up
with a diet company, but I am under a doctor's care to make sure I don't
mess up too much. My doctor is OK with the idea, but not sure how well it
will work. I'm a type 2 diabetic (12 years or so) and I have a cholesterol
problem, in addition to being overweight. I don't exercise regularly, but I
have started again today. I just hope I can maintain the excitement level
or at least the determination to stay with both diet and exercise.

I don't have any specific question, but will watch the threads for good
advice. Just letting you know I'm here, hoping for some comeraderie and
support.

I have noticed a lot of flamers out there. You guyz can be pretty brutal
sometimes. Be gentle with me, it's my first time.

Actually, we aren't brutal to too many people. I highly recommend
exercise. Well, except jogging -- I can't handle jogging.

Welcome Greg!

The only truly nasty flamer is JC...I'm in the process of keeping him
diverted for a while - hopefully you can slip under his radar

One bit of advice, if you want to keep the flames to a minimum, is to avoid
using words that are bigger than you know how to spell when a smaller word
would do just as well. For example: you don't know how to spell camaraderie,
so use friendship or amity instead.

Oh! I see! light on

IOW, avoid pretentiousness and K.I.S.S. You just had to put it into
more words for *me*, JC.

Maybe you should have called yourself a virgin then? G

Just kidding, Greg! Welcome to the group. Some of us will try not to
be *too* hard on you, but you seem to be a good sport and so are most
of the 'players' here. Look forward to getting to know you.

Hi Greg,
Welcome to low carb and ASDLC. Since you've read not only one book but three
you're safe from my 'browbeating'. lol
Believe me, you're going to be amazed at how good you feel once you get past
the first few days.
Best of luck to you! )

Hi and welcome! You don't have to have excitement and determination to keep
up a diet and exercise plan. Well, you need those things in the beginning,
and you need to have them in reserve for the difficult times, but on a day
to day basis what really makes for lifelong change is just habit. I don't
wake up every day "excited" that I get to go the gym and eat healthy foods,
it's just what I do. Sometimes it's pleasurable, sometimes it isn't, but I
do it anyway because it's my life now. I don't skip getting an oil change
because I'm not excited about it, I go do it anyway. I don't fill my gas
tank with soda, and I don't fill my body with it either. Both of those
look equally ridiculous to me now.
