Just a quick note to tell you about Low Carb Update:
http://lowcarbupdate.com. It's a website that links to the latest news about the Atkins diet, South Beach, and other news articles about losing weight. Last week there were a ton of articles about the effect of low carb on the beef and the bread industry. Good for beef, bad for bread. There was a very disturbing story about PETA. This is an animal rights group that promotes their cause by a variety of stunts. Some of their members decided to go after the beef industry by feeding cows meat to make them lose weight. Evidently - a commentary on the Atkins diet. The article doesn't mention it, but feeding cows meat is suspected to be a contributing cause of mad cow disease. It's possible that they are trying infect at least one cow. It just takes one to cause havoc. One sick cow in Canada caused a suspension of the importation of Canadian meat into the US. On the lighter side, the lawyers of Catherine Zeta Jones are looking for someone to sue. Somebody said she was on Atkins. That should be good for about $10 million. However, her husband, Michael Douglas, stated publicly, "I don't know anything." Anyway, if you're interested in low carb news, check out: Low Carb Update http://lowcarbupdate.com Dave N Editor |

I accessed your site a few minutes ago and liked it very much. But
there's something wrong with your program. I can't print out your index page. Every time I press the print function on my computer to print it, a message comes back saying: "There are no pages to print." I keep the index page (with URL) of all the web sites I like best in a notebook. This is so 1) I don't lose all the URLs to my favorite web sites if/when my computer crashes, and 2) I can remind myself what is on the site when I am offline. If your program does not allow printing, please consider changing it so the people who like your site can at least print the title page. Thanks, Barbara Dave N wrote: Just a quick note to tell you about Low Carb Update: http://lowcarbupdate.com. (...) If your program does not allow printing, please consider changing it so the people who like your site can at least print the title page. Thanks, Barbara Hi Barbara, thanks for your nice comments. I set up no restrictions on printing my page. It printed ok when I just tried. Maybe you can try to "select" part of the page, then when you go to print, choose to "Print Selection." If you tell more about your printing setup, maybe someone can offer additional advice. If worse comes to worse, you can print this message. Hope this helps. Dave N Low Carb Update http://lowcarbupdate.com |

Dave, I followed the link on your website (http://news.unclesharky.com/articles/1142). You may want to check the source on the disturbing PETA story - it's at a satire site. I think you were fooled on this one. Wow. I've been watching too many West Wing reruns. Strange thing is that the link came from the Google News feed. Your right. It's satire. Makes you think, though. Guess that's what satire's for. Thanks, Tom. Dave N Low Carb News Update http://lowcarbupdate.com |

Pat wrote: One slightly ironic result of PETA's actions would be fewer animals on the earth. Think about it: if we didn't eat any meat, why keep animals around? Cows and Pigs aren't especially cute or cuddly. I disagree! I think they're adorable. (I'm serious, I absolutly love them both, but especially cows.) But I do get your premise. Bucky Fuller used to promote eating grains because of the impact on the earth and starvation of eating animals. He was my hero, but, at the time, to my knowledge, knew nothing of insulin resistance. He was always a little chubby, too, lol. My guess is that I probably ate and/or wasted more meat along with all the other crap when I wasn't eating low carb than I do now. Now I am much more conscious of the food I eat, where it comes from, and am so grateful to the animals and farmers who raise them. We give thanks to them when we say grace. Barb |
