Default British egg shortage

Couple of days ago the Times of London reported that eggs were in somewhat
short supply, and attributed this to the Atkins diet. Apparently egg
consumption has risen 9% over last year to, if I recall the number
correctly, 28 million a day. There was a suggestion that the supply of
Christmas cake might suffer as a result, although if they're right in saying
Atkins is the cause, presumably this will also cause a decline in the demand
for cake, it being pretty high carb. This diet is certainly creating plenty
of buzz, but more heat than light!

Ah, NOW they have their hook -- due to the evil Atkins diet, Christmas
will be cancelled.

The media here in the US has occasionally indicated that the price of beef
in this country has been driven up due to the Atkins Diet. It has nothing to
do with the reduction of imports from Canada due to the Mad Cow thing. LOL
