But you can't use it to subtract from the other carbs you eat. The reason you can subtract the fiber in (for example) broccoli from the total carb count of broccoli is because the fiber grams have been counted as carbs but they go right through you without being digested. If you eat candy that has no fiber then take a fiber supplement it doesn't offset the sugar carbs. Or any other carbs, not just sugar. The only time you subtract the fiber to get "net carbs" is if they're all on the same product label chart. That's becasue FDA regulations make the manufacturer add the fiber grams and the sugar grams or whatever to make a "Total Carb" figure on their chart. So on a label we can take the fiber back out of that figure. So taking a fiber supplement (or eating fiber vegs etc) won't destroy the carbs in something else you're eating. However if you eat them at the same time, the fiber can slow down the absorbtion of the other carbs, which can help in some cases. The longer it takes the carbs to absorb, the longer before you're hungry again. Oil can do the same thing: for example the sugar in ice cream that has a lot of fat is slower to absorb than the same amount of sugar alone. If a dish of lasagna has a lot of veggies and oil in it, will slow down the carbs in the pasta. Or a salad of veg and oil eaten at the same tima as pasta will slow it down. For comparisons of the speed of different foods, search for "Glycemic Index" and "Glycemic Load". Skinny |

Since (if I understand correctly) you subtract grams of fiber from grams of carbs is is ok to have some supplementary fiber you can get in pills from pharmacy? Jerry well, it is like this. Take the fiber pill.... and say it has 10 grams of fiber (carbohydrate not digested). Add the 10 grams of ingested carbohydrate to your dietary intake. Then, you can subtract the 10 grams because it is undigested ingested carbohydrate. So, you get zero net added (digestible) carbohydrates from the fiber pill. You can't use 50 grams of pill fiber to eliminate 50 grams of Mars Bars suger that you ate an hour ago. You can't graze in the hay field and eat all the sugar you want, to put it another way. Then the issue must be expense...I've never had any problems wolfing down several capsules with a glass of water, whereas with the powder it generally needs to be mixed with stuff. Of course, with these high-fiber LC tortillas, along with veggies, one can get lots of fiber without the need for capsules. Heck, I got 51 g of fiber yesterday. :: :: In , :: Roger Zoul stated ::: FOB wrote: ::::: No, it's a matter of volume. ::: ::: The capsule material itself takes up a lot of volume, so you have ::: less fiber? ::: ::::: ::::: In , ::::: Roger Zoul stated :::::: FOB wrote: :::::::: You have to take a lot of capsules to get the fiber in a :::::::: spoonful of the powder, much more expensive in capsules, too. :::::::: :::::: :::::: Why?
