Default Yahoo: Do this to block Microsoft updates!!

I found this on another group. I did it and it is already helping a
lot!
------------
You can block email addresses in Yahoo ... go to Mail Options. You can
block up to 100 addresses or URLs.

Since the MS update spam blizzard ... I've blocked the following
address and URLs and it's helped a lot.

microsoft.net
updates_ms.com
homeserver.net
bigfoot.com
mxserver.net
..syntax-error
xqqi.msn.com
mailserver.com
"Microsoft Corporation Customer
smtpserver.com
ntlworld.com
technet.com
entelchile.net
rocketmail.com

subtechnologies.com

When after blocking these addresses and URLs .... when another spam
gets through ... look for the sender's address or URL and add it to
your blocked address list

Can anyone add any more to the above list?

Okay, Igor, how do you do it? My email address is being mail-bombed so
hard that I actually had the account yanked. (I've just gotten it back
through the good graces of the system admin who knows my husband.)

I use PINE to read my email and the filters only work to delete the crap
AFTER I start pine. That means I need to keep PINE open all the time to
keep this account clear. It's been happening since Thursday. What the
hell are we supposed to do?

And why me?

somebody who got infected w/ the virus had you in their address book.
That's "why you".

Short of a 3rd party mailwasher/mail filter .. I'm not sure how to
recommend to get rid of them. the other option is to change your email
address.

Wendy,

It isn't just you! My machine is clean as a whistle but it takes me hours
to check my email because I have to check 'okay' on the 600 or so virus
infected emails that come through and are caught by Norton.

If I get one more 'your message has been returned' email, I might just break
the computer. Sadly, I do a lot of work through email and this is
absolutely crippling. I have already deleted a couple of important emails
that were buried between microsoft update emails. Apparently, the senders
properties are also forged so there is no way to tell who the emails are
coming from. I am so frustrated I could just cry.

When it started last week, I was an hour late for one of my clients as I was
panicky trying to scan every single little file on my computer and making
sure that all my virus definitions were up to date. My firewall security is
so high that it slows me down when and blocks me from doing certain things I
need to do. It is notable that this started for me on Thursday which is the
day after Norton automatically updates it's system. The first 50 or so went
unchecked although attachments are disabled in my email anyway and it did no
harm. I did notice Norton had an update on Friday which is unusual.

I called my ISP and they were fairly useless.

Removal of the recent bugs is supposed to be fairly complicated so I'm glad
it isn't me. However, it would seem that since removal is difficult, we
will continue to be inundated for a while.

I do so wish I could change my email address. In fact, I am seriously
considering adding a new one. It's just that I have spent three years
building relationships with clients and many of them email me. I would hate
to appear unresponsive.

Uh, is there a 3rd party email washer/filter you recommend? Even when I
block them in Outlook, they clutter up the server where I pull email from
when I am out of my office.

I've been lucky enough that the only one I'm getting is the one that appears
to be from security(at)microsoft.com and always states the title as "use
this patch immediately!". My problem seems to be that no matter what I put
in my message rules, it still downloads it from the server. Irritating but
glad I'm not getting masses of it. I was getting tons with the same virus
from various sources but managed to weed those out with message rules and
deleting them from the server.

I guess I've been real lucky as I haven't received one of these through my
newsreader provider - of course they may have had some problems because my
email was down for a few hours a couple of days ago. The only place I've
seen them is in the newsgroups.

Well that should have been through my ISP who does provide the email and
newsreader service.
