These past days has been the worst I have had in years. No more Atkins
for me.

That just ****es me off.

Hey look at the link I posted. It's backed up.

I was being facetious.

I have to be honest with you. Atkins makes you all a bunch of smelly
old farts

What puts me in a bad mood is folks who come into a SUPPORT group
with things critical of the base methodology that we are providing/
seeking
SUPPORT for.

Never mind the gross inaccuracy of this statement from your article:
"Some experts are concerned about whether it might trigger diabetes
and kidney damage in the long term."

No objective expert in anything other than BS is concerned about this.

Perhaps we wouldn't be in a bad mood all the time if folks didn't
troll
our support group, or offer suggestions to eat more pasta, or poo-poo
the natural diet we evolved to eat.

Thanks. I feel better now.

Me too. I'm losing weight. After the first couple of days, it's not
that hard either.

I am cooking Thanksgiving dinner for
family, extended family and friends. I have not been tempted to cheat in
the least.

I'm taking Thanksgiving off. By Sunday morning I'll be back into
ketosis.

My appetite is down, way down.

Mine too. I used to be obsessed with having food where I could access
it quickly. I was AFRAID of being hungry. I've been on, then off
(the past two years where I got fat again), and now back on. Now I go
many hours running a calorie deficit, burning my own body fat, with
little discomfort. When I get to maintenance, there'll be no
discomfort at all.

I am pleased as punch!

Me too. My energy is up, and I keep feeling better about my
appearance. Low carb isn't a fad that has gone the way of Pet Rocks.
It's a way of life for lots of people, and even more people who don't
eat LOW carb, do eat LOWER carb, and are conscious of the glycemic
effect of stuff like bread and potatoes. LC's detractors are stupid.
People who say, "High protein diets are..." seem to be fewer all the
time, as most people have been set straight that LC is NOT HIGH
PROTEIN. It IS high fat, and the requisite number of years have
passed to penetrate the skulls of even the densest of simpletons that
a high fat diet can cause a body to burn off its own fat.

Low-carb seems to be great for the libido and the weight loss has really
improved my dexterity. I'm skinnier, healthier and more active than I've
been in quite a few years. I am pushing 50 and have more energy now than I
did when I was pushing 40, for shizal. My chest pains are gone, my blood
sugar is down, my blood pressure is down and I am no longer on any form of
medication. I fit in restaurant booths and its easier to find clothing that
fits. I feel better and am doing better in every way since I've been
low-carbing.

Not that I'm very well studied, but I do read this group, a couple blogs and
the occasional diet related study. Given my personal experience plus what
I've learned over the past however long its been, when I hear anybody talk
**** about low-carb, I know that they lack the knowledge, education and
experience to speak as any sort of expert regarding diet and nutrition. I
don't care if they are a nutritionist, a sports buff, a personal coach or a
doctor: if they haven't kept them selves up on the subject they don't know
their ass from a hole in the ground.

Hmm that could prove problematic

Bryan, I get plenty to eat, so I am never hungry. You just can't beat a
low carb diet. I have tried other diets, but I keep coming back to low
carb. It works for me.

About 7 years ago I tried reading this newsgroup, but there was a
participant here who was really nasty, her name was Cupcaked. I enjoy
reading this newsgroup, I learn a lot, and I hope to keep participating.

Meanwhile, life is good.

Especially if the doctor is a proctologist.

Default What's with Xylitol?

I bought a packet of this. It says zero carbs and 100% xylitol, all
natural, no artificial sweetners, no aspartame, sugar-free, and all that
jaz.

How does it compare with Atkins recommended Splenda in terms of whether
or not it is good for you? It tastes pretty much like real sugar.

Thanks,

Peter.

Xylitol is NOT zero carbs, except in that serving size with rounding.

It's 40% less carbs than sucrose, or table sugar when measured by, say,
the cup.

It's a sugar alcohol.

Some folks find that some sugar alcohols cause them to have the runs.

Of folks who measure their bg, some find sugar alcohols raise their bg
as much as would be expected for the calories, so they *do* act as carbs
in their body.

And a lot of folks find that some sugar alcohols are better than others;
erythritol seems to be one of the safest ones for not causing diarrhea
nor raising bg much.
