Default Conversion of units

Hi,

I recently bought a scale to weigh food, and it measures in grams. Some
sources give 28.35 grams to the ounce, and others give 29.something to the
ounce.

I'm assuming the discrepancy is that one is avoirdupois ounces and the
other is fluid ounces. Is that right? And if so, which is which?

TIA

Fluid ounces don't convert to grams, though, they convert to
milliliters.

28.34952 grams per av ounce.

31.10348 grams per troy ounce, though.

Grams always convert to av oz (weight). Milliliters convert to fl oz
(volume).

29.57353 ml per British fl oz
28.41306 ml per US fl oz

Odd. Does anyone but a jeweler still use troy weight?

Aha! I had no idea there was a difference between US and British ounces.
Thanks!
