What? I have to burn calories?!?
Please don't think I'm ignorant saying this, but I thought ketosis was
the only thing that burns fat in this diet!!! I thought you didn't have to exercise on this diet either!! I don't have the energy right now to exercise!!! Now I also have to burn calories like I'm on some low fat diet when in actuality I'm on a high fat diet? Someone set me straight!!! |

Exercise helps but it isn't critical. Once you get through induction you
will also find that low carb eating reduces your appetite and provides calorie control that way. The benefits from exercise are imcalculable. I lost 20 pounds on Atkins without exercise. Then I started to excercise and my entire outlook on life changed. I'm so much more aware. I feel so much better than I've ever felt in my life. Daily stress doesn't kill me anymore. My blood pressure is dropping and I'm losing weigt faster than before. I can also eat more carbs because my body can handle it. You don't have to do it but I can't emphasize it more. |

And then people ask why their loss eventually stalls. |

PJ I have talked to people who have done Atkins and didn't exercise. It worked for them. I exercise. It is just plain physics, a body in motion tends to stay in motion. Give your self a week or two at curves and see how good you feel after that second week. I was all tired when I got home that first week, now if I have time, I do an hour instead of the half hour workout. You don't have to exercise to lose weight. In fact, in my experience, exercise alone without changing what I ate resulted in only 1 pound of weight loss in a month. IMO it is a lot harder to lose weight by exercise than by cutting back calories. However, there are other benefits to exercise besides weight loss, and it does consume more calories than being sedentary, so you can eat a bit more than you could otherwise and still lose weight. -- Michelle Levin http://www.mindspring.com/~lunachick I have only 3 flaws.
