Hello all,
my progress is just unbelievable. I started just days ago and lost 7.8 pounds just like that. Now I must say that I also started an exercise program and I know that having all these ponds to loose will cause big loses in the beginning, it will get tougher but its ok. I feel good, I feel that I am losing weight and today I had did something I have not done for some time. As usual I did not shop for the weekend so I did not have the right food to eat. This was usually an excuse to go out and buy junk food. Well I did go out but to the shopette where I bought just what I needed and that's it. No junk food. Maybe this time I am going to make it. Good start - especially about the lifestyle changes! Weight loss will fluctuate, slowing down to a crawl at times...then whooshing off...but once you've made the lifestyle changes, you'll have it made . Good job! It's really amazing how much more quickly shopping goes when you don't wander around aimlessly picking up high-carb stuff left and right and just concentrate on the outer edges unless there is something truly specific you want somewhere in-between. I've been at this for nearly 3 years now and I STILL marvel at how little I actually end up put putting in my basket and how what IS there is usually very basic stuff. -- Saffire 205/140/135-140 (aka JUST RIGHT!) Every once in a while I see an article about someone who saves tons of money
on their groceries by using coupons. I always wonder what kind of horrible diet they feed their family when I look through the coupons that come with the Sunday paper. Once in a while there is a coupon for something I buy (Mt. Olive pickles is one I see quite a bit) but most of them are for horrible processed junk. I shop the ads and buy the specials on meat and veggies, but they don't have coupons for real food. In , Saffire stated | Good job! That's my experience too. I pretty much gave up on coupons. Specials, now... that's another story! I do keep track of what's on special, as sometimes they "hide" the meat specials, hoping apparently that you'll buy something similar but more expensive. They don't seem to do that as much with dairy, and not at all with produce. Concentrating on specials, plus things that are just always a good buy (eggs, canned tuna, tofu, cabbage etc.) is a really good way to trim a food budget. That and finding the best store in your area for consistently good prices. With gas costs outa control, I like to stick to one market, one trip a week unless I happen to be passing by another source. Most of the time. I'm going to be moving in a few weeks, and was gratified to learn that my favorite market (ShopRite) has a store within a few miles of my new home. Here in DE I've found ShopRite to have the best prices, both specials and non-specials. Sadly, Trader Joe's is going to be a lot further away. They usually have good prices plus superior quality on frozen fish, nuts, eggs, and some dairy. HG |

I rotate stores, Costco every 2-3 weeks, they have a lot of frozen stuff and
produce that I like, also heavy cream. Kroger's every 3-4 weeks, they have a lot of things Costco doesn't carry. Super KMart every 2 weeks, they have excellent steaks and one type or another is usually on sale, $4.99 a pound or less, plus they have miscellaneous non-food items which I occasionally need and they have the best price on Fancy Feast. Meijer's once in a while, they have the best pork rinds. In , Hannah Gruen stated | That's my experience too. I pretty much gave up on coupons. Specials, | now... that's another story! I don't do the big discount stores, like Costco or Walmart. In part because I usually cook for myself and buying in big quantities is often just not worth it, but mostly because those places are quite a drive from where I live. HG |
