Low-carb in Cape Town: Found some products

Hello

Just some information for peeps in South Africa, Cape Town, where LC products esp prepared products
are hard to find.

//Disclaimer: Please note,I have no interest (eg financial) in these stores, except that I found
these products there, and good on them for stocking the products! End of disclaimer//

I found some Atkins brand products (vitamins, bake mixes, cereals, a couple of other things) at
SuperSpar in Sea Point, (the Spar at the Bantry Bay end, near the traffic roundabout.

It is expensive tho, but kudo's to the store for daring to stock them.

These I found at Spar in Kenilworth:

Good Hope Soy milk (regular)1 Litre
non-GM
carbohydrates: 1.7g/100ml of which sugars: 1.3g/100ml
dietary fibre (listed separately) 0.6g/100ml

-has "best before" date, can be stored on the shelf, refrigerate after opening.

I like the taste of this soy milk.
They have a website: www.ghib.com

A nice cocoa powder:

Tantalize "Milky Mix" Hot Chocolate 150g (claims to make 24 mugs, and suitable for diabetics)
no sugar added , contains aspartame and asulfame K
carbohydrates: 0.9g per rounded teaspoon of which readily absorbable 0.1g

Requires about 1 rounded teaspoon per cup to make hot chocolate,
I used that amount to make a mug of hot chocolate, with less than 200ml water and 100ml soy milk,
gives a nice cocoa taste.

(Hint: look in the health-food/ diabetic supermarket aisles for products .. there may be some things
which could fit into a low-carb regimen)

Thirsties Pork Crackling 40g:

A really convenient replacement for potato crisps, although it's twice the price, first time I tried
it I was hooked, it has "saved my bacon" (pun intended haha) on several occasions when I was caught
away from home.

Woodies mini chocolate bar:

Supposedly 2g of sugar per bar, most of which is lactose, sweetened with maltitol.
I avoid this mostly, unless I can't beat the craving for chocolate, and there's no pork crackling,
my logic being that it's a devil which may cause the least harm to my weight-loss progress.

And don't forget that very South African standby: Biltong! A great snack
(be careful with the droe wors it may have added sugar.. I've never had a problem yet with wors
...obviously they can't add too much otherwise it would taste weird)

There are other products around in CT, mostly for sportspeople/bodybuilders who follow carb-blocking
phases in their diets, go into any sports-supplement store or pharmacy, however I don't know much
about these, eg those frightfully expensive "low carb" sports bars.

Good luck with your lc'ing, please post if you have any more info.

Some Woolworths products:

Woolworths French-style mayonnaise
Carbohydrate: 1,3g/100g

Woolworths heat/pour cheddar and wholegrain mustard sauce
carbohydrate 5.5g/100g

heat/pour peppercorn sauce
carbohydrate 4.4g/100g

The above two sauces are a little high in carbs so I go easy on them
