Default Food & Exercise -- 8/26/2004

Lots of both today :-). Took the day off from work and hung out at
the gym.

Food:

5:00 (driving to gym): ready-to-drink protein shake

7:30 (gym cafe): breakfast sandwich: tortilla wrap, Egg Beaters (2 egg
equivalent), 1 oz. cheddar cheese, 1 oz. turkey breast

10:30 (bought from supermarket next door to gym): banana; 1 oz. cashew
nuts

1:00 (also from the market): 1 1/2 cups red grapes; 1 1/4 oz. cashew
nuts

3:15 (Italian restaurant w/ gang from the gym): 3 meatballs w/ tomato
sauce

7:00 (driving home): 1 cup red grapes

8:00 (home): 2 poached eggs on 1 slice whole wheat toast w/ 3 slices
melted f/f cheese

Totals: 1847 calories, 75g fat (37%), 176g carbs (38%), 126g protein
(27%)

Exercise:

6:00 a.m. -- 1 hour studio cycle class. Class is based on heart rate
monitoring and this was a "performance workout" -- most was at or
above anaerobic threshold. This was my first time doing this, and I
found it pretty challenging -- was pretty fried afterward for a while.
A friend teaches it and I wanted to try it out, but won't go normally
because of the time.

8:00 a.m. -- 75 minute yoga class (Not too strenuous -- good
stretching.)

From then until my Olympic lifting session: steam room, eating,
clothes shopping trip, more eating, hanging out in the gym playing
with some of the equipment a little bit, more eating :-)

4:30 -- Olympic lifting (a sort of short and easy session -- schedules
were a bit askew today):

Shoulder warmups

Power cleans: 1x5x15kg/33lbs; 1x5x25/55; 1x4x30/66; 3x3x35/77

Back squats: 1x5x20/44; 1x5x30/66; 1x5x40/88; 1x3x50/110; 3x1x65/143

I'm still feeling off. I will have to speak with my psychiatrist to see if
it's because of the medication. I feel dark inside and not caring about
much. Oddly enough I'm not craving sweets or junk food. Sometimes I just
don't feel like eating at all but when I do eat I almost can't stop. I'm
not sure what to do about it. I'll have to force myself to eat only 3 times
a day, no snacks. I'm not drinking much either.

B.F - none, wasn't hungry

Lunch - (all left over from BBQ)
1 soy burger+bun
-oinions raw
1/2 hot dog (big jumbo juicy kind)
2 glasses of iced tea

dinner (also left over from BBQ)
2oz steak (cut up into a stir fry w/teriyaki sauce)
1/2 cup wild rice
veggies

Once I realized I was only at 700 calories (minus the iced tea) I felt like
I was "due" some snacks.

1 cup lucky charms cereal
1/2 cup milk

2 slices of bread w/margarine
1 tbsp caramel spread for bread

Total calories 1550
Exercise - walk to vet and back (about 20 minutes total)
water - maybe 1 litre

This is very destructive behaviour but I'm hoping that by recognizing it and
seeing why I'm doing it will help to stop it. So far the scale is the same.

Cplus, I have a question for you. Why do you keep the Lucky Charms in
the house? I don't recall your living situation, if you shared it, but
would it be possible to not have these around? It seems that you get in
to them and then beat yourself up about it. I don't like to see your
beat yourself up about what you eat...

It's actually around for the kids. The problem was not that it's in the
house. It's the fact that I haven't got a good adult cereal (my other
choices were cocoa puffs, corn pops or cinnamon toast, all were on sale)
Normally the kids don't have all the sugary cereals. At most they have one
or two but since these were on sale (3.99 for a 725g box) and since the kids
eat cereal like it's going out of style (we also go through 4ltr of milk in
two days) we're trying to save a little money.

I'm not beating myself up for eating the cereal, I'm angry at myself for
just giving in to the urge to eat when I know I'm not hungry and don't
really want anything.

Thanks for the concern

Right but do the kids need that? Could you consider improving their WOE
at the same time that you are working on your own? For example, maybe
you could have Cheerios in the house for the kids (more fiber, less
sugar, similar calorie count). Otherwise, would you consider having
them eat a cereal that they like but you don't like?

I can understand saving money but is it a bargain if you are posting
about how you ate it and shouldn't have eaten it every day? And if they
eat that much of it wouldn't you want them eating something healthier
than Lucky Charms?

I'm sorry. There seemed to be a lot of angst in your posts.

No, the kids don't need that. Usually like I said they don't have that much
of a choice. They do also have honey nut cherrios and crispix now and
usually have mini wheats, shreddies, life, special K and others around. We
mix up the cereals usually. It's also a rule that they have to eat 90% of
the cereal we have on hand before we buy them more of anything. Their
cereals don't tempt me. I had the lucky charms because it was the only
cereal from the selection I had that I liked. Now I have just right and vive
soy so I won't eat any more of theirs.

I think my above post explains this.

I'm not beating myself up for eating the cereal, I'm angry at myself for
just giving in to the urge to eat when I know I'm not hungry and don't
really want anything.

I'm sorry. There seemed to be a lot of angst in your posts.

No need to apologize and I hope that you aren't thinking that I'm being
defensive at your posts. I'm just trying to explain my lifestyle a bit
more. You did sense angst but it's not from food. Food is what I'm turning
to because of the angst. I seem to be battling personal demons inside and
I'm not really on track with the food. I don't get mad at myself for having
eaten it but I do question why I ate it. What it gave me and if I'm likely
to do it again.

Once again, thanks for the post
