Default foods points come from

I asked previously if it mattered what foods my points came from, if I had
to eat lots of fruits and veges for the program to work. I guess I should
have explained myself a bit clearer. I do eat at least one fruit and vege
each day and I wasn't thinking about only eating high point foods. I just
meant if I stay in the point range would I be able to to lose weight.

An example fo foods I eat:

B: Kashi cereal 3 points
8 oz skim milk 2 points

Snack: tea
1 cup applesauce 2 points

L: 6" subway sub (ham, lettuce, tomato, pickles, mustard) 5 points

Dinner: Lean Cuisine Dinner (cheese ravioli) 5 points
V8 1 point
2 lite bread 1 point
fat free pudding 2 points

Total: 21 points

These are foods I love and could eat for the rest of life...with changes of
course ie. oatmeal, english muffins, tossed salad with chicken breast and
fat-free dressing, different Lean Cuisine dinners, fat free yogurt, etc.

I don't like lots of fruits and veges daily...just a couple.

I don't like fast foods like burgers and fries.

I hate cooking and I don't have (or choose) to make time for it.

I do take a multi-vitamin daily and go to the gym or workout at least 3
days/week.

Right now I'm just eating too much! I'm hoping by following WW points life
plan I can lose my unwanted 20-30 lbs and not have to eat mounds of fruits
and veges daily.

Will the Points Plan work without tonnes of veges and fruits in my diet (aka
daily food plan)?

Thank you to everyone in advance.

I am in a journaling group with a woman who eats very like you describe
here, and she has lost 48 so far You have a good balance of foods there, and
are within your points. I predict you will lose very well. If you do get
stuck after a few weeks, go for some lower days mixed with some higher point
days.

Your meals look good. They look a lot like mine when I did flex. I had 24-26
points to play with so I had room to add some more fruit.

If you wanted to add more veggies/fruits, try adding a salad to your LC
dinner or fruit on your cereal in the morning. A cup of berries is only 1
point so you could have 2 fruits in place of your cup of applesauce (sugar
added?). Don't forget that the lettuce tomato & pickles on your sandwich
plus your V8 count towards your veggies. Another thought is to aim for a LC
dinner that has veggies in the meal plus the salad. Remember most veggies
are 0 point so they help in filling you up.

You'll do great with this type of menu.

Hi,
I asked previously if it mattered what foods my points came from, if I had
to eat lots of fruits and veges for the program to work.

It depends what you consider "working". In my case, changing my eating
habits for life so that I never get fat again would be what I'd call
"works". I don't just want to be skinny, I want to be healthy and the
*bare minimum* for health is 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day.

I guess I should
have explained myself a bit clearer. I do eat at least one fruit and vege
each day and I wasn't thinking about only eating high point foods. I just
meant if I stay in the point range would I be able to to lose weight.

If you were active, yes. But you'd be highly unlikely to be able to
stick at it long term if you ate too little bulk - your stomach would
start demanding feeling full, and the only way to do that without piling
on the points is fruit and veg.

These are foods I love and could eat for the rest of life...

All that processed food isn't good for you, especially the Lean Cuisine.
There's just no fibre, antioxidants (vitamins that are required for the
immune system and to avoid cancer), slow-release carbs (white pasta,
white bread and starchy fillers might as well be sugar, as far as your
metabolism is concerned), plus you've got some nasty fats in there from
the cheese.

To be blunt, I think you need a more radical change of diet than simply
sticking to the points regime, although that's a start. You need to
start developing a taste for the foods that are going to be really good
for you, and fill you up, and give you energy and a strong immune
system. Just adding a few steamed veggies or a side-salad to your Lean
Cuisine meal would be good.

with changes of
course ie. oatmeal, english muffins, tossed salad with chicken breast and
fat-free dressing, different Lean Cuisine dinners, fat free yogurt, etc.

If you like chicken salad then there's a million quick, easy recipes you
could do (you are aware, of course, that salad is vegetables, aren't
you? ). Oatmeal's great because it contains slow-release carbs that will
stave off hunger, but you could add some dried fruit to it or some
sliced banana, and have a glass of freshly squeezed juice with it.

I don't like lots of fruits and veges daily...just a couple.

If you can eat a couple, you can eat 5 portions a day.

I hate cooking and I don't have (or choose) to make time for it.

You're possibly feeling lethargic, due to lack of essential nutrients in
your diet.

I do take a multi-vitamin daily and go to the gym or workout at least 3
days/week.

Processed vitamins aren't anywhere near as much use as real food - one
study actually found *no difference* between a group on a standard
European diet (much the same as the standard American diet - too much
fat, salt, sugar, too little complex carbs, fruit, veg etc) with
vitamins and the group without, but the group who had fresh fruit and
veg were significantly healthier on all scales.

But again, its a good start. But that alone isn't going to do it for
you, sadly.

Right now I'm just eating too much! I'm hoping by following WW points life
plan I can lose my unwanted 20-30 lbs and not have to eat mounds of fruits
and veges daily.

You're probably eating too much because you don't have the bulk in your
diet to make you feel full, and there are so few nutrients your body
keeps telling you its hungry, in a vain attempt to meet your nutritional
needs.

All those "fast carbs" (sugars and starches) get burnt off in no time,
leaving you with low blood sugar, an empty stomach and a craving for
even more of the same. It's poisoning you!

You don't need "mounds", but you need significantly more than you're
getting.

Will the Points Plan work without tonnes of veges and fruits in my diet (aka
daily food plan)?

Thank you to everyone in advance.
Kerri

P.S. Please don't think I've got this cracked either, cos' I'm also
poisoning myself with starch, sugar and rubbish food, but as they say,
you've got to acknowledge the problem before you can fix it.

I suspect you're in denial about what you need to do to fix your weight
problem, and rebelling against the advice because it sounds scary. You
can lose the weight your way, if you want, but I can guarantee, from
bitter experience, that you'll put it all on again and then some, unless
you change your ways.

Anna,

Excellent post. I think this is why I like the Core (no-count) program so
much. It has made me eliminate all of the unhealthy foods that I was
consuming. Not that all of it was junk but a lot was. I was eating lots of
veggies but little or no fruits and dairy because I did not want to use up
my points for it. I am rarely hungry these days and feel so much better in
the process.

Looks like you need more protein. Try adding some chicken/turkey or
tuna, perhaps with some salad. Otherwise it looks cool.

Yes, it will work - but you won't be anything like as healthy as you you
would be cooking fresh food and eating fresh fruit and vegetables.

Ready meals are full of salt, padding and other zero value (but not zero
point) 'foods'. Cooking from scratch can be as easy and simple as
re-heating these things. I love to cook when I have the time, but if
I'm in the middle of a big project (I'm a dress and costume maker
working at home), cooking is pared down to the simplest of things that I
chuck in the oven and forget for half an hour. Frequently dinner takes
no longer than 10 mins to prepare and 30 to cook while I put up a hem,
sew on a set of buttons, hem a pair of pants, whatever...

I manage to cook this way for me, a type 1 diabetic husband, and a
growing 10 YO son the size of a 12 YO, and non of us ever touch a
vitamin supplement of any sort. We are usually disgustingly healthy.
Just ask and I can give you some WW friendly meal plans and cooking
instructions.
