I realize from your prior postings that you are battling with low-cal
vs. low-carb. Here are a few reasons why I continue with low-carb, as well
as some helpful things I did to keep myself on it, especially in the
beginning.... (snipped to save bandwidth)

Tom-

Good for you for conquering your acid reflux. Imho, soda once in a
while is not unhealthy, but if it affects your reflux, then is good
that you are taking inventory of your food and drink intake.

I agree. It's not the best thing to drink. It's actually CO2 and water
sold by Super Store under the name of Carbonated Spring Water. Soda water
does taste saltier than this stuff. I haven't seen it in other stores, they
usually just have the soda water. I also notice that I can now eat raw
onions, celery and green pepper, which I wasn't able to do before. Perhaps
the acid reflux was caused by many different foods. I'm assuming that
eliminating grains had the greatest benefit, allowing me to eat the lesser
irritating foods. Also not as much abdominal fat pulling on my stomach
probably is as big a factor as the grains. I realize a few people on this
board have not been so lucky. Their acid reflux could be the result of
damage or disease, rather than irritation.

I feel exactly the same way. I have not had candy, ice cream, any junk
food in 1.4 years and do not even want to try them again, for this
reason exactly.

I don't feel like I'm missing out on sweets anymore. If you want to
experiment, just have a sip of diet or regular coke. You will be shocked at
how sweet it is and wonder how you could have drank a whole can of it
before.

Tom, you sold me! Thanks for an excellent post ...... now I have to

get
back to the lo-carb way with a vengeance. Your reflection was quite
helpful.

I'm happy about the number of good responses including yours. Most of my
helpful tips were gotten from reading the long time members postings about
what helped them. It's always nice to read about someone else's success and
the problems they faced along the way.

This paragraph has renewed my strength to butch up and stop 'tasting'
things that keep me from losing weight. I've saved it to look at
periodically to remind myself why I'm doing this. Thanks!

The only problem you cited was the chocolates. Chocolate can be fine if you
make your own and use splenda. Cocoa powder is mostly fiber.

Although store bought chocolate is not bad every once in a while.
Sometimes it is better to just enjoy a small amount of the real thing
and curb the cravings. I find by having a reasonable amount of what I
am craving, I often eliminate the urge. You can enjoy yourself every
now and then, LOL...
