That's why I weigh it before.

I get on the scale and note how much I weigh.
Then I eat.
I get back on the scale and note the difference.
That is how I weigh my meat.

How you measure or weigh something depends on what the reference for
the carbs of the particular item is. If it's listed as X carbs for
8ozs uncooked, then weight it uncooked. It it's listed as X carbs for
a cup cooked, then measure it by cup cooked, etc. Meat shouldn't need
to be weighed, since it has zero carbs, unless it's some processed
product with added sugar, filler, etc.

honestly? i never thought of it this way. you're right, of course.

That's why I weigh it before.


the only reason i weigh stuff is if i intend to record it, and i
generally record what i actually consume. if i eat something raw,
that's what i weigh & record. if i eat something cooked, then *that's*
what i weigh and record.

six of one, half dozen of the other. or something.

Step #1. Weight yourself
Step #2. Eat the food
Step #3. Weigh yourself again
Step #4. Subtract weight in step #1 from step #3

All packaged food has, I believe, the specifications of that food
pre-cooked. Fattier meat will yield less usable food after cooking after
the fat is poured off.

Assuming the fat is removed after cooking, measuring the weight after
cooking gives you a better idea of what you are eating if you weigh it after
cooking. After a time, though, you will kind of "know" what works for you,
and you will rely more on your bathroom scales more than the kitchen scales.

It depends on whether the nutrition count I'm using refers to cooked or
uncooked.
For example, in Fitday, 4oz of cooked lean ground beef has 302 calories, 21g
fat, 27g protein. However, if you start out with 4oz of raw lean ground beef
the yield after cooking will be less and so will the nutritional
counts......237 calories, 16g fat, 22g protein.

If your source doesn't say if the counts are for cooked or raw I would find
another source of information.
