I can only afford the food for the diet and that's why I have been
asking questions all of you have already read. That's the reason why
I'm overweight, I buy food that's on sale rather than what I should be
eating. Until now that is, I have widened my budget. (but not enough
for the book)

Try using www.atkins.com to start. Like many posts before mine suggest, you
can find the book very cheap online or in a used book store.

I have the old book that came out in the 70's but wanted to see if there
was much different in the new book so I checked it out of the library. I
didn't want to buy it if it was the same thing I had.

Use the website. All the basics are there for free (once
you've got internet access - but that doesn't seem to be
a problem).

Main Atkins web page:
http://atkins.com/
The four steps of Atkins' plan:
http://atkins.com/howto/index.html
Induction:
http://atkins.com/howto/phase1.html
http://atkins.com/Archive/2001/12/15-325810.html
Foods allowed on induction:
http://atkins.com/Archive/2001/12/15-464579.html

And there is tons more good info there. Beware of their
products, especially for induction, but since your budget
is tight, that shouldn't be a problem because the prices
are excessive.

Good luck!

April.

the book can be had for so cheap over the net from half.com or Amazon (used
copies are almost always available).
Sorry, but I don't make much money either, I don't buy your reasoning.

Amber, it just occurred to me .. if you can't afford a $4.95 paperback book,
how do you afford a computer?

Go to the library and check out the book.
Go to the Atkins webpage and read. http://atkins.com/
You say you can't afford the book but you were asking about low carb
chocolate earlier. Chocolate isn't food. It's a treat. If you can afford low
carb chocolate you can afford the paperback book.

Yes I asked about chocolate because I didn't want to mess up, not
because I have the money to splurge on books when I could ask for info
here.......and they were on sale here for $1 a candy bar, so I thought
it was a good price.

The book isn't the problem. For folks on a limited budget carbs are cheap. I
drive the local food bank truck one day a week to collect from the local
supermarkets. Trust me, it's a glut of carbs which in turn gets handed out
to folks who can't afford otherwise.
