Default Ruby Tuesday Unveils Low Carb Menu

On CNBC this morning. CEO talking about new low carb menu including
mashed califlower.

Hopefully, other restaurants will catch the wave!

Wow. I'm shocked. I don't know whether to be happy or afraid.

That's good to hear. Eating out is where I tend to blow it. Hope the trend
continues!

Yep! The mashed, creamed cauliflower is DEElicious! I didn't catch
the CEO's TV appearance but did happen to have dinner at Ruby Tuesday
the other night.

Ruby Tuesday's unique claim to fame is their "serious salad bar",
which offers the low-carb dieter plenty of choices. But do be careful
about which salad dressing you use - for example they have a "light"
ranch dressing which is lowfat but HIGH in carbohydrate, as well as
a low-carb (standard) ranch dressing that you may have to ask for.

They are also providing a high level of detail on nutritional content,
supportive of both low-fat and low-carb dieters.

I get the impression that Ruby Tuesday is eagerly trying to be
genuinely low-carb friendly, but will need the help of knowledgeable
low-carb dieters to fine-tune everything. So by all means visit your
local Ruby Tuesday and make sure they know what you need!

For example, the manager where I was seemed to like my suggestion that
they group low-carb salad dressings and toppings in one area, and
high-carb dressings and things like croutons and pasta salad toppings
in another.

Encourage them in this new attitude and we all may benefit!!!

Which RT did you go to, John? I have read varying reports about
the salad bars. Otherwise, I would have tried RT long ago. Now
that they are making an effort to please LC patrons, I'll check
them out though.

This was the only one I am familiar with in the Boston area, which
is on Route 9 in Framingham, MA. It's on the Westbound side and
I believe it's between Exits 12 and 13 on the Mass Pike. If I'm
remembering the exits correctly, Exit 12 puts you on Route 9 and
you would have to drive about 3 - 4 miles EAST on Route 9. Exit 13
puts you on Route 30, and you would want to drive WEST on Route 30
until it merges with Route 9, continue WEST on Route 9 about a
mile from that point.

As you arrive at the Ruby Tuesday's location, the most obvious
landmarks, both on the same side of Route 9 (the Westbound side)
will be a STAPLES sign and an all-night Walgreen's. Ruby Tuesday
is BETWEEN those two landmarks, in the same shopping plaza.

Route 9 is aka Worcester Road, if you are looking up the address.
(Pronounced WOOH-stuh, for the non-natives.)

Jean -- In addition to the one in Framingham that's mentioned in another
post, there's one in Mall Rockingham Park in Salem NH. It's only a few
minutes away from the Super Wal-Mart, so you could combine visits to both
places on your next trek up there, if you go during a mealtime.

(I think that the salad bar is better at the one in Framingham than it was
at the one in Salem, though.)

Thanks, John. I do know Route 9 because I used to live in
Brookline before I moved to Lexington.

I happened to go to the Ruby Tuesday's in Watertown (Arsenal
Mall?) today when my daughter made the mistake of saying she would
deign to eat a hamburg. Both as I was entering and as I was
leaving I told the manager how wonderful it was that they had
added LC items to their menus, and had provided carb counts on
those items.

I had the Grilled Cajun Chicken, which came with steamed broccoli
and the previously commented upon cauliflower. The chicken looked
sort-of fake, but it was not dry and it had a very nice flavor.
The cauliflower was good, but I can make better myself. The
broccoli was served plain, and I had to ask for some butter to put
on it. I also had to try the cheesecake. There was so much
cinnamon in the crust that one couldn't tell whether it just nuts
or not. There were definitely some pieces of nuts, so I hope
someone can tell me that the normal cheesecake does not have ANY
ground nuts in the crust at all. Anyway, the cheesecake was
good, and I haven't died from eating it.

I will definitely brave the strange (to me) atmosphere to go there
again. I think these places that are trying to accommodate LC
diners should get our business whenever possible, and we should be
vocal about what is drawing us there. I am happy to say that as I
was leaving the manager did say that the LC items were doing very
well.

Hehe. I bought a good map book today, which actually shows Salem,
NH in addition to Massachusetts. I'm going to get up there again
within the next month or so--maybe when my little navigator is out
of school.

The salad bar at the Watertown Ruby Tuesday's was basic salad
stuff, pasta salad, potato salad, some fruits. I think that's
it. Not terribly inspiring. (The BEST salad bar I ever ate at
was in Maine, just over the border from NH and MA [I think]--at a
lobster place. The salad bar was absolutely huge.... I wish
there were more good salad bars. Actually the one at the Fresh
Pond Whole Foods may be the best one I know now. Expensive
though, because they now have what used to be more-expensive stuff
plus the less-expenisve salad items at one price.)
