A Guilt-Ridden Valentines Day
I was doing great on points. All week. And then Valentines Day came.
I only ate off the Weight Watchers menu at Applebees and was still 3 or 4 points under for the day when we left the restaurant. After dinner we went to a frozen custard shop and...well, I have no idea how many points I blew there. I had almost all of my 35 weekly points to spare, but I'm scared I still blew it hard core. It had to be two cups of chocolate custard (which I'm told is less fattening than vanilla) but it had peanut butter and bananas mixed in it. It was delicious, but today is my second meeting and I'm scared what the scale will say now. Actually considering just skipping it and foregoing the bad news. I'm starting week 3 today but I've only been to two meetings (had to miss last week due to a business trip out of town). I blew it though. I know I blew it. What was I thinking. Damn holidays. :Bazooka-Joe |

I blew it though. I know I blew it. What was I thinking. No you didn't! You had a couple of hours off is all. It probably won't show up until NEXT week, and you can always just up the exercise points a bit for the week to compensate. See - easy peasy! Go on, weigh in - I dare you! Damn holidays. Holidays are fun - enjoy them, and use this as a learning experience. Next time choose a non-food treat, like a day at the health spa, some Lush bath products, a membership for the local swimming pool, a dozen red roses and some sexy new perfume... Whatever floats her boat! I got a soppy kiss, which was quite enough for me! Been married 23 years and more now, too. -- Kate XXXXXX R.C.T.Q Madame Chef des Trolls Lady Catherine, Wardrobe Mistress of the Chocolate Buttons http://www.katedicey.co.uk Click on Kate's Pages and explore! |

If you didn't actually sit down and try to figure out how many points that was last night, you can't actually be sure you went over by as much as you did. Sometimes it turns out it wasn't as bad as we think it was. Go to your meeting, and even if you've gone up half a pound, at least you know what you did, and you won't end up dreading next week's even more. Skipping meetings just because you're nervous is a bad habit to get into. -Tay |

But you won't *know* if you blew it if you don't go to the meeting. You're only assuming it's bad news; it might not be. If you didn't Matter of fact, I even looked it up for you. 2 cups custard, 16 points 2 bananas, 4 points 4 tablespoons peanut butter, 10 points So, if you had two cups of custard, with two bananas and four tablespoons of pb, it would've been 30 points. Minus the four left from your day, and you get 26 points. Which would be most of your flex, but you said you'd only used a few of them, so if that's what you ate, you could still be inside your points. Besides, like Kate said, even if you *did* blow way over your points, beating yourself up about it won't help anything. Just accept it, since it's too late to change it, and move on. The world won't stop revolving if you put on a pound one week. I'd know :P -Tay |

She made me an awesome salad with a few small slices of mandarine oranges and some very lean grilled chicken pieces. She also made a home made honey-mustard viniagrette dressing. Big salad - 5, maybe 6 points. That's 10 for today total. Anyway, she says she thought that there was only one cup, one and a half at the most, of custard in my cup. At the most half a banana. And no more than a tablespoon of peanut butter. If she's right, the custard could have been as little as 16 points. I'm thinking 20 myself. She eased my mind somewhat and encouraged me to go to today's meeting. Moment of truth: 2 hours, 40 minutes. :Bazooka-Joe |

I'm a couple of points over for the week so far, but there's still tomorrow, and I've borrowed a spare boy for kite building. We will, naturally, have to see if they fly... Kites, that is, not boys! This will be their first attempt, and boy-lifting kites are lesson six... -- Kate XXXXXX R.C.T.Q Madame Chef des Trolls Lady Catherine, Wardrobe Mistress of the Chocolate Buttons http://www.katedicey.co.uk Click on Kate's Pages and explore! |

A Guilt-Ridden Valentines Day
Joe, consider it a learning experience. The first 2/3 of my day was so
good. I didn't even have an afternoon snack to save points for dinner. We ate at a very fancy restaurant where my son works and we know the owners well. First they brought champagne. I knew we would have wine with dinner. But then they brought three magnificent desserts for the two of us. One was a blood orange granita but I also ate a good part of the chocolate cake and homemade vanilla ice cream. My husband had the strawberry napolean. We would have chosen the granita to share but the desserts were right there and we ate most of all three. So there's nothing to do but say today is a new day and I once again I am really watching my points and portions. I never skip meetings though and pay even if I am slightly above my 2 above goal limit. Cheating is only cheating myself and that's how you should feel too. Go to the meeting and learn from your mistakes. They won't be your only ones but it will all be fine. Audrey |

You were being normal. Take a deep breath, one splurge on custard will NOT wreck your whole week. Honest. Take it from many many similar experiences -- do your best to add up the points. You'll almost certainly find that it is not as bad as you imagine. And then get on the scale. I can GUARANTEE that your weigh-in will not be as bad as you imagine. Look up at your paragraph there, at the top. All of that healthy eating for the whole week. That is still there. You did not wipe it out with one dessert. :-) Damn holidays. Heh. -- Kristen |
