Default My plan to break my mini-stall

Alrighty then, I'm in the midst of a "mini-stall." Since the last time I
was officially weighed at Curves, November 17, I've been stuck hovering
between 161 and 162. I was expecting this, since I'm now down to the
weight at which I was stable for the longest period of time before I
started gaining after college. I think my body remembers this weight
somehow and is happy to be here and wants it to last a while. So here's my
idea for how to get the scale moving down again:

Continue my workouts at Curves every other day, but add walking on the days
I'm not at Curves. (I tried my dad's Crossbow machine, but I don't enjoy it)

Change my eating again. As it's gotten colder my appetite has increased,
and I've been eating more. And the things I'm eating are more calorie
dense too, like meat and cheese rollups. I used to eat three of those as a
meal, now it's 5 or 6. I never completely eliminated veggies, but they've
become a side item instead of the main course, so I'm going back to eating
salad for dinner (with spinach, bagged mixed greens, whatever salad veggies
we have around, a little shredded cheese, and either shrimp or grilled
chicken, with ranch dressing) I'm going to eat stir-fried veggies with
shrimp or chicken but use less oil in cooking than I have been, I'm going
to be much more strict with myself when it comes to nuts and cheese, and
I'm going to eat hard boiled eggs instead of scrambled. I still eat three
eggs that way and feel full, but with the hardboiled there's no butter or
cheese added. And to keep me from snacking when I'm really just bored but
not actually hungry, I'll be chewing sugar free gum at work. I'll still
probably have steak or a burger once a week when my family comes over for
lunch.

This sounds like a good plan, but I have one suggestion -- you mentioned using
less oil. I woul not do that because you are going to be decreasing your
portion sizes and the fat helps keep you from getting hungry.

Especially if you are going to be eating a lot of mainly veggie stir-fries and
salads.

If I eat just a salad as a meal, I am full, but get hungry again very quickly
unless I use about a tablespoon of oil on it.

Youa re making great progress, so don't be so worried about a little slow-down
that you undereat.

If you haven't been gaining weight, I'd say the walking alone should to the
trick. Adding walking plus reducing caloric intake should work, but why not
try one first and then the other? I think most would rather get to eat more
if possible and the walking will be good for you anyway. And on days went
you can't walk, eat less.

I want to do both, I feel like my eating is getting a bit out of hand. It's
not just about caloric intake or the number on the scale, it's also about
how I eat mindlessly and eat more than I intend to, and I want to nip it in
the bud before it gets out of control.

Good for you. If you feel it's getting out of control, you know best! Mine
was way out of hand in November, so I had to get it under control. Luckily,
that six pounds I picked up has disappeared.

No, what is that? The plan I came up with has to do with how I've been
eating lately, here's a typical day's menu for the last week, not nearly
enough vegetables:

Breakfast: 3 eggs scrambled with cheese

Lunch: 5 or 6 ham and cheese rollups

Snack: Too many pistachios

Dinner: Steak, burger, or chicken with a side salad and a side of brocolli
or spinach.

So, that's only 2 servings of vegetables in a day, and a heck of a lot of
cheese. Not sure exactly how many pistachios I eat, but it's easily 2 or 3
cups, and I believe a serving size is supposed to be only a 1/4 cup. Yikes!

So that's why I want to change my eating to more veggie based, less cheese
and nuts, and see what happens.

Well, I am a total newbie here and in LC too, but what I have seen in
many posts and google searches is that when you hit stall, sometimes you
can break it by huge carbing up for one or two days.

There is a scientific background to this, basically you need to
"restart" your metabolism to start loosing again.

Google "LC refeed", or perhaps somebody more competent will provide the
necessary info here.

Extensive discussion recently starting he

http://groups.google.com/groups?q=g:...g.goog le.com

A highly controlled burst of carbs will reset the hormone leptin.
Folks who cheat get the effect accidentally but they also have a
huge risk of falling off the plan altogether. Refeed is a system
that attempts to get the benefit with less of the risk.
