low carb bread alternatives
Just wondering which type of bread-type foods have the lowest carbs. Things
like Pita bread, naan bread, bagels, eng muffins etc, etc. Is there something that I can be using instead of whole wheat bread to lessen my carb count? I went the the grocery store to look for myself but many of these foods do not have the nutritional info listed. Thanks, Buddee. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. I've been able to find low-carb bread items at a local health food store. In my area they're more likely to carry these items than the regular grocery stores. low carb bread alternatives
Two slices of 'Lite' bread has 19 grams of carbs and 5 grams of fiber. If
you subtract fiber from the carb count, it gives you approximately seven grams of carbs per slice. Since these lite bread products have been on the market long before the current low carb trend, they are not marketed as such and the price is much more reasonable. There are also low carb tortillas on the market which are pricey but have a high amount of protein in them. I believe they are made by Tortilla Factory. They are good as a base for pizza like foods and quesadillas but I find that they break very easily when you try to roll them into burrito type recipes. j "Buddee" wrote in message ... low carb bread alternatives
There is a new bread out that is lower carb/slice even than the light breads
that popped up a few years ago. It is 9 grms carbo/slice, does not taste too bad. There are two types on a main stream grocery shelf here in the DC area. Honestly I cannot remember the names, but they are both by largish bakeries. Maybe a Sunbeam, Roman Meal label. Golden grain comes to mind too. In any event, I don't know if this is low enough for you. Also, The Vitamin Shoppe has a large low carb area with a selection of bread mixes. Be forewarned, though. they tend to be higher fat. It seems to be a little drier than regular bread, but it doesn't bother me. There are also low carb tortillas on the market which are pricey but have a high amount of protein in them. I believe they are made by Tortilla Factory. It's La Tortilla Factory, and I love them! The regular size has like 15g of fiber and 10g of protein. They are good as a base for pizza like foods and quesadillas but I find that they break very easily when you try to roll them into burrito type recipes. Then there's low carb pasta, which is 160 cal, 8g of fiber (if I remember correctly) and a whopping 28g of protein! det |

It kinda depends on the power of your microwave how long. I find this procedure necessary for the whole wheat and other non-traditional tortillas to make them more pliable and rollable. Tonia |
