Let's pull this into a separate thread. I'm fascinated by the concepts

of
the stuff people will actually put in their mouths. (Fascinated in the
same way as when I watch operations on TV or can't look away from a car
wreck.)

pancakes
sausage
spaghettios
canned vegetables

another - lutefisk - norwegian cod fish I believe. Stinks to high heaven
and is somewhat rubbery... yuck.

VirtualGuy , de ses doigts volubiles,
effleura le clavier pour y déposer les douces paroles suivantes:
I'll add three of the more horrific ones I've encountered:

Canned meat - Spam, Clik, and any derivative thereof.

chili cheese fries (it makes my mouth slimy to THINK about those)

Then you wouldn't like poutine - french fries, drenched in gravy with
cheese curds melting on the top.

Apparently, a popular choice of the French. A artery stopper for the
restr of us.

Cheers!

Alex

No, no, no, no, no!

It's a Canadian "treat," not a French one. (lol)

However, the same culture that invented these two wonders also loves
something which does have my vote for the worst food ever...souse. I

don't
even know if I spelled it right...but it is some kind of clear gelatin

into
which is molded all sorts of gross organ meats, red somethings (peppers or
pimentos) and I think onion and cabbage. It just makes me ill thinking of
it. I used to get so grossed out as a kid watching the adults chow down on
it. I don't even know if it is high fat/low calorie or what...it is just
gross. Elise

That's the one I was trying to think of (and all my brain could get around
was "tripe"--equally yukko!)

I live in PA Dutch Country where the motto "If it ain't fried, it ain't
food" reigns.

Can anyone top Melissa's contribution, below?

Deep fried chocolate-filled croissants. Apparently, there are such things in
Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Although, the last time I went skiing there, I didn't
notice them and wouldn't have tried one even if I did.

No, but it's unbelievable that this would have any impact on losing
weight. Only naïve fat people and fat people in serious denial actually
believe things like this.

Eat less and exercise more. You'll lose weight.

If I ate my cotton shirt right now, do you think
my body would digest it using fewer calories than
it gets from the shirt itself?

No. But calculate how many cotton shirts you'd have to eat in order to
burn a pound of fat (3500 kcal), and you'll get the idea.

sounds like an absurd list. carrots and apples and strawberries pack a
lot of calories.

Zucchini are packed with calories. You can eat them
and become quite fat!

Huh? There are very few calories in zucchini. According to www.fitday.com a
whole, raw zucchini has 3.36 calories. Doesn't seem like much to me. Perhaps
ignoramus is thinking of something else.

Carrots are also low in calories and packed with vitamins. They make a great
snack. One cup has 47 calories.

Croissants,
french fries
potato chips
deep fried twinkies
cornbread
mashed potatoes
doughnuts

.... there are more, but there are other foods of which I can't think

of
the positives about ;-)

I'll add three of the more horrific ones I've encountered:

chili cheese fries (it makes my mouth slimy to THINK about those)
sausage biscuit gravy (I always decline when my Mom makes it on the
grounds that SOMEONE needs to be able to do the CPR)
deep crust meat-lover's pizza from Pizza Hut

But now tell the truth: do deep-fried twinkies really exist? Or is

that
just a dietary boogie-man?

Yep, they exist. They are the new Fair Food in our area, but I have

heard
that they have had them in the South for years. You can even buy a

"machine"
to make them. I saw it at Wal-Mart. Blech...twinkies are horrible to

begin
with. To batter and then deep fry them sounds perfectly awful.

I figure it's the French escalating the war they began with "French
fries". They don't actually EAT that stuff, they just pretend they do

so
stupid Americans will be fooled into eating it.

Actually, I've only ever heard of this in Quebec. Part of a long-term
plan to annex Maine, no doubt.

Wendy, who liked the South Park movie and avoids "sleeping giants".

Good god yuck! New Jersey was bad enough with simple cheese fries.

I'll take my turn on border patrol but I'll need backup! Jenn? Amy??

Don't forget the chili on those cheese fries! When I lived in New Jersey
though I was a sucker for Italian subs (salami, pepperoni, cappicola,
provolone w/giardinera and mayo).
