Newbie Question
Guys,
I know I should actually buy the book and read it but with everything else I am required to read.. I tap the knowledge of other people following this at work and now on the newsgroups. I am wondering if people following this counted calories on their weightloss quest? If anyone that has had success and has a journal online that lists what a typical day looked like I would really like to see it. I am really surprised how I have adapted to virtually no carbs.. no more bagels in the morning, no sub rolls, no rice/potatoe at dinner, and being a big milk drinker - this has been tough. I do miss my bad Chinese food take out - all that stuff convered in batter. Best regards, Paul about 80lbs to go..yikes... |

Which book?
Most people who've been successful have counted calories. -- Do you ever wonder what life would be like if you'd had enough oxygen at birth? "Paul" wrote in message ... How big a problem is your weight to you?
I'm guessing it's important to you or else why would you be here. If something is important to you and you want to be successful... you have to have a strong foundation. Not reading ANY lower carb book is not starting you off with the best chances. I'd go with the odds... do ALL you can to guarantee success. And that means reading which ever book you choose, for yourself. Jennifer Paul wrote: Guys, I know I should actually buy the book and read it but with everything else I am required to read.. I'd suggest reading more than one diet book. The more books you read, the
more ideas you are exposed to. It also helps to read stuff that isn't written by guys trying to get rich off of branded diets. Lyle MacDonald's Ketogenic Diet is a very good example, but I also learned a lot from books like Fat: Fighting the Obesity Epidemic and The Hungry Gene. One book that taught me an enormous amount about dieting is summarized on my web site at http://www.geocities.com/jenny_the_bean/success.htm It's out of print now, but it's lessons have been invaluable to me in both losing weight and, most importantly, keeping it off. Once you understand the principles of how these diets work, you can try out different approaches and see which works best for you. There is no "one true way" when it comes to diet. Each body is different, so the real trick is to learn something about the underlying processes and then to observe and study how your own works and how to get it to do what you want it to do. -- Jenny - Low Carbing for 4 years. Here's a site that gives a synopsis of different plans so you can chose
which books you might want to look at. http://www.lowcarb.ca/atkins-diet-and-low-carb-plans/ on Sat, 21 Aug 2004 20:42:35 -0400, Paul wrote: Thank you for the reply.. I am going to take your advice and I am off to check your site now. ----- Bev |

Here's a typical day from last year, on Atkins (I've been on Bernstein, and will probably return to Atkins Land). BREAKFAST Atkins or Keto shake (from a powdered mix, and with added heavy cream) or eggs or flax meal cereal or Keto oatmeal hot cereal bacon or breakfast sausage was sometimes added LUNCH 1/4 head of iceberg lettuce olive oil, red wine vinegar, Italian seasoning, Parmesan cheese (Or a Chef's salad) Protein: 1/4 pound hamburger boneless, skinless chicken breast boneless pork chop DINNER large serving of Broccoli, drowned in butter hamburger, steak, chicken, shrimp, pork chop or roast, fish, etc. I pretty much stuck to that meal plan on a daily basis, the consistent factors being the large salad at lunch and the heap o' broccoli at dinner. Lost 40 pounds in 6 months. Then I got stupid. Don't get stupid. G Carol |

What is a calorie anyhow? Freak, I have noooooo clue. Seriously.
291/268/220? | Atkins 7/12/04 - Current 335/264/220? | Atkins 9/5/00 - 3/5/01 Yep, that is my signature, haven't counted any calories. Although, I *DO* expect that once I get closer to my goal weight, sitting on my butt and not paying attention to calories won't help me. But for now... Low-carb is working like champ and I don't plan on breaking that cycle soon. Once I get down lower in weight, probably another 30lbs or so... I will feel more like doing exercises, going for walks and doing things that are well, healthy for me. Hopefully by Christmas I will be in the 23x range. That is my goal. I hope I can do it and my wife doesn't get tired of cooking low-carb. She just said today she is getting burned out. Plus, we have a new one coming in November so, that will impact my ability for a few weeks until my wife recovers.
