Slightly bummed out
Apologies if this grosses out the guys. If you ladies will
recall, I posted about a month ago regarding uterine fibroids. Well, the OB-GYN appointment was a week ago. Being 49 years old, she thinks my problems are more related to "anovulation" (read "The Big M") than to the fibroids. She did an endometrial biopsy (gee, that was fun) just to make sure there was no cancer. While she was checking in there, she said "Wow, you really do have a large uterus". That's not something I particularly wanted to hear at that moment. She says I am the equivalent of about five months pregnant. So, there goes any dreams of ever having a tight six-pack, not that I ever had a six-pack anyway. But, the good part is I never really expected to get to a point where I looked like 20 something anyway. I'm doing this for my health. Also, to look and feel the best I can. So, that's it in a nutshell. Marsha/Ohio Life is Good! |

I was told I was the equivalent of 4 1/2 months. ;-) (And I had that nasty biopsy, too. Ick. My gyn said "this is the most I'll ever hurt you while you're awake.") Actually the biopsy wasn't that bad. She told me beforehand that it would be "20 seconds of intense pain". I have a high tolerance for pain (that German ancestry probably) and it wasn't really that bad. Anyway, when I lost the weight, my belly shrank. It didn't go flat, but the puffiness diminished considerably. Now, I realize your gyn and my gyn are both going by the size of the uterus, but I had ascribed my belly puffiness to the "4 1/2 months" size of my uterus, when some of it was actually weight. So maybe your case is similar and you'll drop more there than you expect. Daria I have lost over 40 lbs. and wondered why not much of it came from around the middle, so I attributed it to the enlarged uterus. If it does shrink a little, that would be nice. If not, so be it. Hysterectomy does not appeal to me. I prefer to keep all my parts unless they get way out of hand. Marsha/Ohio Carpe Diem |

Marsha/Ohio Carpe Diem I wasn't really thinking of a hysterectomy but mine seemed to continue to grow and since the big M is probably still a few years away (which causes them to stop growing)... had this done 3 years ago at age 42. TOM had started to get more & more uncomfortable. Also, my ob-gyn mentioned that the fibroids can start to crowd other organs and cause problems that way. I kept my ovaries and have felt absolutely fabulous since having the hysterectomy. To be honest, if I had realized how the freedom of not having to deal with TOM felt, I would have done it sooner! The only down side was that they were not able to remove them by laparscopy (sp?), so I had a good size incision below the bikini line (barely visible now) (Speaking of 'gross', the doctor gave me a photo of the removed parts - YUCK!!!!)
