Default Today's doctor visit

Got back from the doctor a couple of hours ago and have been just
sitting and thinking about things.

I found out I have diabetes.

I'll probably take a little time off from ASD just so I can be alone
with my thoughts for awhile. I'm not depressed, or angry, or anything
in particular right now, just need to sort out all my feelings. One
thing, though, I won't be falling off the wagon, diet-wise, ever. I'm
locked into healthy eating now for life.

You've all been great, I'll post again when I've come to grips with
everything.

Love,

- Dewolla

I'm sorry, Dewolla. Let us know if we can help, okay? And come back
to us when you're ready.

You're in my prayers.

Dewolla,

I'm very sorry to hear about your diabetes. It's a devistating blow,
especially when you've worked so hard lately to change your eating habits
and lose weight. I can honestly sympathize with you on this one.

It will take a while to sink in and once it does I hope you feel up to
rejoining us. Not to sound like a pollyanna (because I am so very *not*)
but you've already taken some important steps to managing type 2 diabetes by
losing weight and becoming more active. I do know quite a few people who
are diabetic as it is nearly epidemic among the population that I work with.
The ones that are able to manage their diet responsibly and keep their
weight under control tend to have very few effect from the disease. I even
know a few who aren't on any medication because of their healthy lifestyle.

Take care!

Jenn

I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Count your blessings... the doctor
caught it early enough so that you can take control of it before it controls
you. Thank goodness you found you have it now, rather then years from now
when your health starts suffering. Hang in there and please don't leave the
group forever...

Dear Dewolla,

I am so sorry to hear of your diagnosis.

Please know that you are an inspiration to those of us losing and that
you are on the right path to controlling your diabetes, diet and
exercise. You are in my prayers.

I read all the posts before mentioning this, since it seemed so likely
that SOMEONE would say it...

Dewolla, people are recovering from diabetes all the time these days!
It turns out that changing your lifestyle to include more exercise and
eating better alleviates all the symptoms and stops the damage. (I
assume you'd still be unresponsive to insulin if you relapsed so I won't
say it's "cured".)

I personally had Syndrome X, pre-diabetes, two years ago. I absolutely
cured my insulin resistance with high intensity interval training,
weight-lifting, and eating a balanced diet similar to the South Beach
Diet and/or the Glycemic Index diet and/or The Zone Diet and/or the Body
for Life diet and/or the way of Eating Krista describes in her Eating
101 page at www.stumptuous.com/weights.html

I'm not saying it's easy, but do what it takes and this will just be a
blip in your medical history rather than a forewarning of heart disease
and all the other woes of diabetes.

I'll probably take a little time off from ASD just so I can be alone
with my thoughts for awhile. I'm not depressed, or angry, or anything
in particular right now, just need to sort out all my feelings. One
thing, though, I won't be falling off the wagon, diet-wise, ever. I'm

I think of diabetes as your body MAKING you do what you should have been
doing all along. In other words, it's sort of like gastric bypass
surgery.

You've all been great, I'll post again when I've come to grips with
everything.

Love,

- Dewolla

Good luck with the emotional aspects, but don't be away too long!
