Can anyone recommend a good, effective over-the-counter appetite
suppressant? I am not talking about a 'magic diet pill' or trim-spa or
fat burner or anything like that. Just something that helps suppress
feeling hungry. About 10 years ago I tried Dexitrim with some success,
but now they use a new 'natural' formula which doesn't work for me.

No. Start an exercise program and make sure to include aerobics for health
and also because in my experience a good aerobic workout suppresses appetite
for at least an hour. Also change how you eat to include more fiber, which
is also filling and reduces LDL as well as keeping you from feeling hungry
longer.

I have to agree with patricia. The more fiber you consume the less hungry
you will feel. Lentils and split pea soups are great sources of fiber. I
have been taking L-Glutamine for a while now and my binge urges have all
but went away. I'm sure it's just another snake oil remedy and the urges
are gone due to the way I look at food now. But hey I'm not gonna
complain. I take L-Glutamine for speedy recover after hard workouts.
The craving suppression is either a beautifull side effect or in my mind.
I'll take it one way or another. Diets high in fiber have also been
stated to help people lose and maintain the loss of fat.

NOTE TO MYSELF

I have a family gathering this evening. So I am expecting my weight to
be 195-200 in the morning. Lots of salty/evil food I **WILL** be
partaking in. It will be water weight and will exit my body in a few
days of ?normal? eating again.
END OF NOTE TO MYSELF. ))

I use a delicious cup of organic coffee diluted with water with
cinnamon and vanilla added and some sweetener. (I use saccharin which
now has a clean bill of health) It's my best and most satisfying
appetite supressant and I have two cups daily which isn't too much
caffeine.

disentary. works a treat - you won't want to eat for weeks, and the
pounds will just fall off you.

if that doesn't appeal, how about some good old honest will power?

butch up!

one-2 tablespoons (120-240 calories) olive oil. (if you are unaccustomed to
the taste by itself, try to get to just swallow it anyway like a medicine
-it'll grow on you, and you'll be able to tell the taste of yummy vs yucky
after a while.)

It'll sustain you for a LONG time.

I find that low-carb/high fat meals tend to suppress appetite bigtime and
make it so I don't overeat on other types of foods. In fact, I often
forget to eat. If I didn't have children who I had to feed, I'd probably
be more oblivious to food's existence than I am already.

This coming from a former 250+ pound glutton, for whom the idea of
"forgetting food" was a laugh and a half a mere 2 years ago.

In response to:

The best appetite suppressant that I have found is LARGE doses of
chitosan/vitamin C. It is important to use the right ratio of vitamin
C. There is a lot of misinformation (pro and con) on chitosan, so you
might want to read these articles:

DrumLib

i would like to know what would be the exact ratio between chitosan
and vitamin c, if this is possible.

to answer a few comments about will power, from _my_ experience, it
eventually kicks in strongly as a motivating force once i start
getting results. i think that will power is also about changing
everything in your daily routine as you know it, thus definitely a
change of mindset: being focused at every moment and going one
meal/one workout at the time.

all the best to everyone and thanks for posting, this newsgroup is
very inspiring to me
