I was driving 8 hours a day, twice a week for a year while
working on my degree. I noticed that on those days I wasn't
burning any calories to speak of. I finally learned that I
shouldn't eat any breakfast before the trip and also shouldn't
stop to eat during the trip. (Nor snacks during the trip).
Driving evidently burns less calories than anything else.

Hey ... you're just sitting there for 10 hrs ... bouncing along. Then
ya park for 8 hrs and sleep ... maybe some walking around in a truck
stop or a mall. Your left leg and right arm get a little use shifting
gears in the mountains but that's it. All that sitting combined with
a low fiber / high protein diet (eggs, bacon, potatoes or pancakes)
wreaks hell on your intestines and prostate too. I shouldn't bring
in the dangers of vascular leg thrombosis.

I used to nibble on Triscuit or the small Shredded Wheats and drink
bottled water. The munching kept me awake and provided a tension
outlet and the water was FAR better (and cheaper) for me than gallons
of coffee and/or soft drinks like so many truckers consume.
