Gut Hormone Shots Help Overweight Patients Shed Pounds

LONDON, Aug. 29-Self-administered shots of oxyntomodulin, a hormone released
by the small intestine, promoted weight loss in overweight and obese
patients, British researchers report.

Injecting oxyntomodulin three times a day a half hour before meals for four
weeks helped overweight and obese patients reduce their body weight by 2%,
according to researchers led by Katie Wynne, MRCP, a clinical research
fellow at Hammersmith Hospital here.

Those in this randomized, double-blind study were asked to maintain their
regular diet and level of physical exercise.

The hormone's effect, however, was short-lived. The treatment group quickly
regained the lost weight within two weeks after stopping the injections

Would be also interesting to see if this medicine worked if used for
longer time.

Suzanne Somers stressed the role of female hormones in weigfht loss in
her recent book. She advicates natural soy and yam derived HRT as
opppsed to premarin
