Default I saw lots of really fat people in those electric scooters today

Jeez.. Only in America.
I was reading in a magazine I subscribe to, that some woman from England,
who had just moved to the states, wrote the editor and complained about the
large serving sizes here in America, and asked the editor if she didn't feel
this was partly responsible for the increasing obesity in America. The
editor posted several letters in the next issue from American housewives who
were enraged at this. You would think this woman had attacked the flag, when
all she'd done is ask why our portion sizes are so huge here. She'd been
wanting to know if they could do at least some recipes in "normal" serving
sizes. This is truly sad. I decided to write the editor and scold her for
not showing both sides of the issue, and for not being intelligent enough to
realize this lady was exactly right, and not slamming "America". I think
there is something like 60% obese in this country now? Disgusting...

I am retired and I went down to a local, discount supermarket today to
stock up on nonperishables. It's the first time that I had been to this
particular establishment on the first day of the month. I could not help
but notice that there were tons (pardon the pun) of really fat people
riding around the aisles in electric scooters. The smallest of them
probably weighed around 400 pounds.

As I traversed the aisles with my cart, the scooters always seemed to be
blocking the way for others and parked squarely in front of junk food.
People were being delayed in their grocery shopping while these scooter
driving fat people made up their mind what kind of cookies and such they
wanted to buy. I observed that the baskets in the scooters were not
exactly brimming with health food.

While shopping, I bumped into the manager. I related my observations to
him. The manager let me know that it was the first of the month and

that's
when people who are retired or on welfare get paid. I told him that the
people riding in the scooters looked to be anywhere from their late 20's

to
early 40's. The manager explained that the people in the scooters were on
disability because they were too fat to work. He went on to explain that
this store, because it had a lot of junk food at low prices, tended to
attract many of the really fat people in the local area. Because the
really fat people loved this supermarket, they had 10 of these electric
scooters available. The manager said that the first of the month is so
busy with the really fat people that sometimes all the scooters get used
and there's a small line to ride one.

What is this country coming to?
