ok, you may all think I am a dork, but I just bought a karaoke machine for
myself to do some recording. I am not positive I can answer all your
questions but here is my advice.

a cd+g is recorded as 2 separate tracks whereas a regular cd or dvd is only
one. That is why on a cd+g you can eliminate the voice on a song. As far as
the dvd with karaoke option, I would find one that has that and then
research it on the internet. You can go to the main website such as Phillips
and enter the model number of the machine you are looking at and they will
have all the info on that particular machine. You do not have to buy
anything first. But my thought is that if the DVD player plays cd+g's it
would say that on the box. Something like "cd+g compatible".

I actually went onto eBay to buy mine and got a semi professional machine
that has a plug for a keyboard and a plug for a guitar. The company I bought
it from was 2paws karaoke. They included 6 free discs and a cordless mic as
well as a cd case. It works great. If your daughter or any of her friends
play or will play a guitar or keyboard they can practically have a real
band. That was my purpose for it as well because we work with exchange
students and there is always someone talented in that department.

Sorry to run on so long. I hope this helped a little.

I've been wanting to buy a karaoke machine for my daughter for her

birthday.
There seems to be so many formats for karaoke machines. Can anyone advise
me as to whether or not it is worth getting one that supports the dvd or

vcd
format or is cd+g good enough?

Also some DVD players (which can also play cd's and mp3's) have a karaoke
option. do these machines use dvd karaoke format, or just the regular cd

or
cd + g format when it comes to playing karaoke?

I have asked in the stores and I get "don't know" or "buy it and if it
doesn't do what you want return it".

Thanks,

Sid...
