Richmond, VA CBS TV Station's News (WTVR) just trashed Atkins
I was watching the 11:00 News a while ago and couldn't believe it. They
did about a full 3 minute "news" story where they: #1: "Quoted" a New York Times article way out of context, saying that now that Dr, Atkins is dead, the Atkins Institute has said that people should not eat red meat and fats. #2. They interviewed some Bimbo who looked like she weight 120 pounds, who said that she tried the Atkins diet for eight days lst month and didn't lose any weight, and she had to quit because "all that meat and fat gave me a terrible headache." Incredibly, she then said that she is now on the South Beach Diet because it "lets her eat salads, vegetables and nuts, none of which are allowed on Atkins." (!) They showed her chopping up lettuce, celery and other green vegetables for the salad that she said she couldn't have eaten on Atkins. They said that the South Beach is a healthier version of a the "low carbohydrate fad diet" and Atkins is having a hard time "competing." Needless to say, I was not a happy camper. I waited a while until I was not so upset, then wrote an e-mail to the TV station pointing out the blatant errors in the news story and complete lack of balance; I suggested that their news team needs to research facts better -- maybe by reading Dr. Atkins' book -- before disseminating false information. Must be a CBS thing, the one in Knoxville, TN did the same thing. They had
a short story on the noon broadcast yesterday and then a longer one tonite. I e-mailed them a link to the adkins.com explanation yesterday and they still ran with the story today. I think that we should call one of the other networks and see if they will run a story contradicting the CBS stories. marengo wrote in message s.com...
